"Harry, let me ask you two questions," Lavender started after what felt like too much silence.

He stared at her, looked into her beautifully expressive eyes, and waited patiently for the question.

"Do you love me?"

That was the easiest question he ever had to answer. "Yes, of course."

Lavender nodded as if she expected it all along. "And I love you. And I want to be with you more than anything. So, my second question is why do you keep pushing me away?"

Harry stared at his hands. "Ron."

"Ron practically dumped me. Why does he get to dictate our relationship, especially when he's busy panting after Granger?"

"Ron won't see it like that. You were his first, and if we date, he will think I'm betraying him."

"How is that fair to me? To us?" Lavender asked.

"I never said it was, but no one would ever call Ron Weasley rational."

Lavender bit her bottom lip. "I know you consider him to be your best friend, but if he's a true friend, he'd be happy that you found some semblance of happiness, especially while in a war. We both know how fleeting life can truly be. We shouldn't waste even one moment. And I want to be with you more than anything."

"If I dated for you, it might forever destroy my friendship with Ron."

Lavender nodded. "I guess you have a decision to make. No matter what choice you make, I'll be mature and accept it," she promised softly.

She kissed him softly on the corner of his mouth and stood up.

Harry watched her walk away, and he felt his heart go with her. If he chose Ron, he'd break his own heart as well as Lavender's. If he chose Lavender, he would probably never be able to repair his friendship with Ron.

It really was a lose-lose situation.

What should he do?
