One thing along saved me from despair,

Back in my feral stage

Once in a while she would meet my stare

Then I'd forget the cage.

'Well I'm going to make something else for Edgar. You keep an eye on him, sweetheart!'

'Okay…'

I stared out from between the bars of the cage, and looked at this girl standing in front of me. Clad in blue jeans and a pink t-shirt, she still looked like the most exotic and beautiful person that I had seen so far. And there wasn't many. Only her mother, the sheriff, and another group of slack jawed yokels that seemed to take pleasure in prodding me, and treating me as though I were a bomb likely to explode at any moment. No wonder I lash out.

I blinked slowly, and bit down on my bottom lip. My fangs pierced the skin, and I tasted my own blood, just like I used to down in the dark of the cave when there were no animals to feed on. I whimpered very quietly, almost silently, but still she heard.

She turned to face me with an annoyed look on her face, and glared at me incredulously, meeting my stare.

'What?' she spat at me.

And at that moment, I felt like I wasn't a trapped animal, cadged and bound into a metal prison. I felt as though the bars had been lifted, and only her and me were left in the world. But I couldn't tell her. I could not yet speak. I could only grunt incomprehensibly, and smile madly.

'Rick!'

The door was knocked on, and the girl swung it open, and a scrawny teenage boy walked through into the room. He did a clear double take, and fear flashed across his face.

'Whoa! What- is he still alive? Wait- he's in your house… I thought your dad would just kill him!' Said the kid.

'He's not home yet,' reasoned the girl casually, 'So…what do you wanna do tonight?'

'Hey there little freaky, remember me? We were never introduced properly…' Sneered the youth, approaching the cage, but still staying at a safe distance. I hunched my shoulders and bared my teeth. My ears twitched, and I growled softly. Heaven only knows what he was going to do…

Why even name this creep?

Dad's just gonna put him to sleep.

So do what you want, it's fine

Just don't call him mine

He's your freak, not mine.
