Gate of Souls

The night was silent.

She could feel the cold creeping into her fingers (into her heart). She watched in childish fascination as blood dripped slowly, gently, as if mocking her, from her wrist. A dark contrast to her smooth, pale skin. Her wine-coloured eyes shut tightly as she slashed again at the milky white skin, creating another wound. (One more, just one more, thirteen). She opened them again when she realized that it wasn't painful anymore. (Its coming).

She felt something wet on her face and touched it with her left unwounded hand. She blinked owlishly as she saw that it was tears and let her arm fall limply beside her. Her soft, pale lips curved upwards into a gentle, sad smile as she felt her whole body grow numb.

She let her eyes wander around the church she was in, before she heard the double-door clicking open. She tried to move her lips but she couldn't, due to numbness, so she just closed her eyes painfully, her breathing coming in heavier and heavier.

"Tifa?"

She opened her eyes and saw bright sapphire eyes looking at her with shock.

(Oh, it's you.) And she smiled.

Cloud scanned the stunningly beautiful features of his dear childhood friend, noting at how her skin had gotten deathly pale. Then, he felt his heart contract in a painful spasm as he saw the pool of blood that surrounded her.

He raced towards her and crouched down as he cradled her carefully.

(What took you so long, Cloud?)

God, you're always late… Her eyes seem to be telling him, twinkling in amusement.

She reached out and slid her hand at the back of his neck, rubbing soothing circles. She pulled his closer and he shut his eyes, unaware of the tears that were falling (like rain).

She whispered six words into his ear. And his eyes opened again in disbelief and pulled away slightly to look at her in shock. She just smiled as her arm fell beside her limply again before closing her eyes (forever)

(…and ever).

(Don't cry for me…) was her last thought when she saw tears glistening in his eyes before everything became black.

Cloud watched in horror as the beautiful ruby eyes closed forever.

"Tifa, please, please…" Don't leave me here.

The night was silent.
