If My Love is a Sin
Some say it's a sin to love, I never did ask why. But if I sin loving you, I'll sin till I die.
Sakura had always known what was right and what was wrong. She saw the line, knew its lay by heart. She was the person you asked if you were unsure about the rules. She had them memorized down to the smallest detail.
It was thanks to this that she had one of the highest averages in the academy. She had heard her parents brag to their acquaintances about how well she did in school. Her tests were always pinned on the refrigerator. A's were the only thing up there. And the best grades were on those codes for a ninja.
The rulebook.
She knew every rule. Glibly repeated them back on the tests, in class, to her classmates, anywhere, anytime.
She knew them.
When she had seen Sasuke laying motionless after the fight with Haku and Zabuza, she'd felt her heart jerk to a stop. She couldn't breathe for a moment, the pain rushing in. After she told herself that she could love him and still follow the rules. Not break that rule while they were on a mission.
But the sight of the love of her life still had made her sin, break the code she knew by heart. She'd run forward, not caring who saw the fear on her face. She'd tried to regain control as she knelt by his side.
Even as she reminded herself how much she loved the rules, loved repeating them, she knew she was sinning.
"A ninja must not show any emotion in any situation."
The twenty-fifth rule. She broke it daily for him.
As she sat by Sasuke, she cried, tears flowing freely. Her heart was an open book in blatant disregard to that rule she had loved so much.
"A ninja must put the mission first and must have a heart that will allow him not to cry."
And here she sat, sobbing her broken heart out. She confessed her sin as the tears fell, splashing onto his face. If only they could wash away the wounds, make this horrible nightmare end.
Sasuke stirred, spoke her name hoarsely. With his words, she felt her heart beat again, heal. And she knew.
It didn't matter if love was a sin to her. For him, for Sasuke, she would sin until the day she died. Because she would rather live a life of sin than not love him with her entire being.

A/N: Ahh…. quick drabble I whipped up. I saw this quote stored away and realized it was perfecto for Naruto! Well… SasuSaku. Yes, heavily based on the scene where Sasuke "died." But that end line I hope reflects the way Sakura truly feels for him. That she would rather die, commit treason, than stop loving him. Which is really dangerous but… what can I say? Sometimes you can't stop your feelings. Or just plain don't care what others say.
