I only own Ami, everyone else is JKR's character.

My first story, so It may not be really good.

I remember that night clearly, as if I were watching it through someone else's eyes. Harry and I had been in the living room with them, our parents.

Dad had been playing with us, making colored puffs of smoke escape from his wand. Mom, laughing as I sat, transfixed by the changing colors. Harry, giggling as he attempted to catch the smoke in his small hands. However, this happy, comfortable feeling would not last.

Our cat leaped off of his perch on the windowsill, and everything was set into motion. Dad stood up quickly, and raced into the entryway.

I heard a click as the door opened and Dad yelled, "Lily! It's him! Take them and run! I'll hold him off!!"

Mom grabbed Harry and I and raced upstairs. I managed to glimpse a black cloak and hear a cold laugh. Mom seemed frightened, as if this visitor wasn't friendly. Harry laughed, thinking we were playing a game. Mom seemed to realize that there was no way out of the house, and stifled a scream. I quietly watched, afraid of the confusing events unraveling themselves.

Mom set me down in my crib, quietly trying to soothe me.

"You're alright, Ami, we'll be okay…"

I watched, wide-eyed, still unsure.

The black cloaked man entered the room, the nursery, our only sanctuary.

"Move aside girl." He commanded in his high voice.

"No! Not them! Please! Spare them!" Mom cried desperately, turning around and holding Harry.

I watched, confused. Who is this man? Why is Mommy sounding upset? Where is Daddy?

"Let me at them, and I will spare you, Lord Voldemort is merciful." The man spoke, sending a shiver down my spine.

"No! Please spare them! Take me! Kill me and spare them!" Mom yelled, her eyes clouding with tears of horror.

The man snorted in disgust. "You stupid girl." He said an incantation and sent a bolt of green light at her.

Mother turned just in time, shielding Harry from the curse. It hit her in the back, sending her crashing towards the ground.

Harry, who had been silent all this time, now gasped as he fell out of our mother's arms.

I sat in shock, "Mama?" I asked, scared. When she didn't respond, I grew hysterical, "Mama! Mama!"

The man looked at me, disgust on his pale face. "Silencio," He said, lazily flicking his wand.

I suddenly couldn't speak; no sound came from my frantic mouth.

Harry began to cry, realizing this was not a game.

The man walked closer to Harry, smiling coldly. I watched as he raised his wand and said the same words that had hurt Mommy. "Avada Kedavra."

I expected Harry to fall like Mommy, but instead the light exploded, hurting my eyes.

Suddenly, everything went black.

Soon, I regained consciousness and cried, hurting all over and not seeing anything. I heard Harry crying too, so at least I knew he was alright. After a while, my throat hurt, so I stopped crying. I fell back into restless oblivion.

I woke again, realizing I was being held. Foolishly, I thought it was Mommy or Daddy, alive and well. I discovered that instead it was a large man, crying.

"Blimey, it's a wonder you both survived, when your mum and dad…" The man trailed off, crying.

I wanted to reach out, to comfort the large man, but I was too tired. I lay still, hearing rustling blankets. Harry's okay. Was my last thought before drifting into sleep.
