A/N: Written for the Prompts in Steps Challenge at the GX Writing Academy (link's in profile), Step 1 (poetry) – prompt #001 – trickle.

A Trickle to a Flood

His power was then still a trickle
in a near-dry stream, the thirsty lapping
on soil and weed and waiting, waiting
for the flood

And when it came most of them lost their footing
and were swept away, and others fled for cover
from the blanket that splashed over the sides
and spread – spread beyond its bounds

But the riverbank of power went down, stabilised
and found its groove, its flow
and runs on, letting the passers-by drink their fill
while leaving their feet dry.
