Jack Sparrow never seen a more beautiful girl in all of his ten years of life. He bit his lip looking down the beach at the little girl and wishing her older brother wasn't there so he could go and say hello. Jack's young mind thought if only he could get her to play with him, go fishing, and maybe build a sandcastle with him that she would think he was handsome.
"What ye lacking behind for Jackey? Come boy!" Teague's booming voice made Jack jump knowing he would be punished if he was disobedient. Jack ran up the deck of his father's ship letting his dark brown hair flow behind him. His father's mistress had started to dread it and although it hadn't completely taken in a week's time, Jack was proud of the locks.
Once he finally was were his father wanted him, Jack went straight to work emptying the ship of the bilge water. It was a nasty job but Jack never complained since he was the youngest crewmember to handle the job. His mind went back to the girl and her brother he saw on the beach. It was only the third time he ever seen the girl and yet he still didn't know her name, her parents, or even how old she was. Jack sighed shaking his head and pumping harder until he was sure his father would be proud of his handywork.
Later that week, Jack had time off and his father rewarded him with sweets for being a good little sailor. Jack had taken a handful of his sweets to his father's mistress Tia Dalma was her name. She was the first woman Jack had ever found not only motherly, but beautiful and probably too affectionate to a ten year old. She had redone the dreads that had come loose and Jack told her about the girl from the beach as she feed him strawberries.
"Ye courtin' now Jack? What would ye father say to dat?"
"I'm not! I don't...like her she's just pretty and I want her to play with me on the beach. Tia, do ye know somethin' 'bout her?"
Tia Dalma took the bowl of fruit from Jack and smiled before grabbing his slightly babyfat hand and dragging him to the mainroom. Jack was never allowed in there when he was alone because Tia knew he was known to pickpocket, and also because magic could be a dangerous thing.
"We shall see if thee gods can't tell us more about ye girl." Tia Dalma said as Jack sat in her lap and she begun to speak in a language that Jack had only learn a few words in. Tia Dalma was silent for a bit before she conjured up a strong wind and the leaves on the table spelled out a name before Jack's eyes. He gasped jumping a bit and grabbing on to Tia Dalma's arms afraid but she kissed his brow and reassured him the magic was safe.
"Anamaria Marie-Rosa Santinas. That be ye girl's name Jack, and them gods say she will be special to you in more ways then ye know."
"Anamaria...it be a pretty name Tia! I gotta tell her!" Jack said ready to jump out of Tia Dalma's arms but the woman stopped him turning his young face sharply in her hand. Jack was still as a dead dog truly afraid knowing this woman held great power.
"Not too hasty Jackey...this girl be hard on ye in the coming times. She not be dat easy won."
Jack frowned thinking it over before a smile graced his face and Tia Dalma let him go. Jack reached in his pocket and realized that he still had half his sweets from his father.
"I'll bet she like sweets! Bye Tia I'm gonna make her my friend!" Jack said racing off and Tia Dalma watched him go. What she didn't tell young Jack was that Anamaria was a firecracker of a girl who would confuse, love, and eventually mother his children.
"Dem be the beginnings of Jack's personal hellcat that one!" She said laughing and shutting the door behind her.
