Title: Worry

Author: JeGarr

Info: Based on Merlin and the characters Arthur/Gwen. May be spoilers for those of you who haven't seen 2.13. Set after Merlin and Arthur find Ballinor (The Dragon Lord), the scene where Gaius confronts Gwen. My first fanfiction, so here goes!

Disclaimer: I don't own Merlin, the BBC does. If I did, Arthur and Guinevere would be married already.

Gwen stood before the castle, on the ledge that Uther usually stood, pondering about current situations. But today, Guinevere took his place. There was no time for Uther to ponder his thoughts on this ledge, for his kingdom needed rebuilding and needed to be ready for the dragon that would return again that very night.

Gwen watched the people of the Camelot, her people, helping the knights with their temporary rebuilding. She watched her people put out the fires that had been burning all night, watched her people mourn over the dead and she felt guilty because all she could think about was Arthur.

Had he found this dragon lord? Would this man come back with Arthur and Merlin to save the kingdom? Was Arthur safe? What if something had happened? Gwen pushed all thoughts out of her head. It was causing her more stress, stress she didn't need.

She heard approaching footsteps and turned around to see Gaius. He joined her on the ledge and she tried to rid her face of any emotion that would give her away. They both looked out over the kingdom and then Gaius spoke.

"Missing Morgana?" he asked

Gwen smiled but it left her face as soon as it came.

"She is stronger than people think," he continued, "I believe that where ever she is she'll be alright,"

Gwen's face gave nothing away as she continued to look out over the kingdom. Morgana had left them and she was pretty sure she wasn't going to make reappearance anytime soon.

"And Arthur?" Gwen asked, before she could hold her tongue.

Gaius looked at her, seriously, "You care a lot for him, don't you?"

Gwen blushed than tried to cover up her words, "Everyone does."

Her smile faltered as she was once again reminded of Arthur.

"And he cares the same way about you," Gaius turned to her, catching her eyes.

Oh no, she thought in slight panic, Gaius knew. She turned to him slowly and gave him a slight smile.

"It's alright," he said gently, seeing the worry crossing her eyes, "I won't tell anyone,"

Gwen let out a breathe she didn't realise she was holding. He knew, but he was going to keep it secret for her. Once again worry crossed her eyes as she thought about her situation with Arthur.

"I know we can never be," she almost whispered, the sadness in her voice extremely obvious.

"Oh, the world's a strange place, Guinevere; never underestimate the power of love,"

Guinevere smiled at Gaius, if he believed in her maybe she should start believing in herself.

"I've seen it change in many things."

Gwen turned away from him and looked out at Camelot once again. Maybe one day, she and Arthur could be a possibility and not just a dream. She smiled slightly before letting out a sniff, her worries of Arthur returning.
