"RINGS"
As sung by DENETHOR to the tune of "Stars" from Claude-Michel Schönberg's Les Misérables
There, out in the darkness,
The Land of the Shadow,
Black'ning the sky —
Black'ning the sky.
As Lord of Gondor,
I never shall yield
To the Pow'r of the Eye,
To the Pow'r of the Eye.
He rules his land in the dark.
Mine, stemming from Númenor,
Has ever borne the brunt of his hatred
None else ever bore,
And if it fell
All lands else should fall
In ruin —
In war!
Rings!
Thus would Boromir,
Serving his father,
Battle for Gondor.
With this mighty thing,
Facing the Enemy
We should endure,
With no need of a king —
With no need of a king.
All being then as it was:
No Ranger, no Wizard's Fool,
Though sprung of Isildur,
Should reign in my place
To serve thee as thy tool,
And though I slept still in Rath Dínen,
My son should rule.
And know, Mithrandir, the Steward of Gondor
Is the Lord still of Faramir;
I am his father and he my son,
Though not most dear.
Thou wizard's pupil,
Go to the battle —
Though naught it bring!
I shall never rest,
But know,
We had won —
Had I but had the Ring!
