"Maglor's Lament (song version)"

...because we all know he was a rock god.

Work: the Silmarillion
Character(s): Maglor
Genre: Angst
Rating: PG
Note: I say "song version" because I'm currently working on a rhyming poem with the same title, much after the style ofthe Lay of Leithian (the full-length one from the Lays of Beleriand)... but that's a different matter entirely. This is meant to be the lyrics to a rock song, and it was inspired after listening to Blind Guardian's "Nightfall in Middle-earth" for the millionth time, and being disappointed that it only went up to the Fifth Battle. They could have done some awesome stuff with Maedhros and Maglor finally getting those pesky Silmarils back, only to have to do away with them. And since Maglor was a musician, it seemed appropriate. Now just imagine him wandering on that shore with a rock band, and you'll be in the right frame of mind. Alright, I've blathered enough now. I hope you enjoy this; review and tell me what you think if you care to do so.

Now at last it's manifested
Oh, how we were tried and tested
Now truth hits me like bitter rain
The deed is done, the oath fulfilled
But not ere tears and blood were spilled
A faithless kinslayer I remain

The rest did not survive the fall
Death reached out and took them all
Why I have survived I do not know
It's over now, but at what price?
Forsaken virtue and reigning vice
By the Sundering Sea lamenting I go

Can I never undo the wrong that I have done?

I cannot take this anymore
The things I've done I do deplore
Our sins shall be reviled in lore
Oh, how I long for Valinor.
I cannot take this anymore
I rue the deeds of Fëanor
Lonely I wander on the shore
Oh, how I long for Valinor

The gulls echo my mournful cry
For sad and sorrowful am I
I fear that redemption I may never know
A shining jewel clutched in my hand
Now at last I understand
I just have to let it go

I cannot take this anymore
The things I've done I do deplore
Our sins shall be reviled in lore
Oh, how I long for Valinor.
I cannot take this anymore
I rue the deeds of Fëanor
Lonely I wander on the shore
Oh, how I long for Valinor

Longing for a place where the Trees still shine
If only I could turn back time

Every tear I shed will be for Alqualondë
Every word of mourning will be for my fallen kin

Cast it into the Sea
The world will never know such beauty
Cast it into the Sea
Let the tide wash the evil away
