It's been a really long time since I've put something up. Since Falling for the Falls aired yesterday, how can I not write a fic today?
However, the episode and this fic will be unrelated. This story was actually inspired by my favorite song at the moment "High of 75" by my favorite band ever, Relient K. If you haven't listened to them yet, you should.
If I don't update Letters to a (Former) Lover this summer, you can bombard my inbox. (:
Sonny With a High of 75
by Pwnguin
Chad's POV
Lately the weather has been so bipolar and, consequently, so have I.
"Sonny," I call as I chase after her. "Sonny, you know I didn't mean that." I spot her target, her bright red car. It seems duller today, a combination of Sonny's mood, and the clouds warning with rain.
She stops to turn around and stare into my eyes. It pains me to stare back; her anger sends a pang into my stomach. "Then what did you mean? It's hard to say something and mean the exact opposite."
I rub my hand along the nape of my neck, stroking for the words in the back of my throat. They aren't there. My mouth opens, but then closes. It knows the consequences of speaking without thinking and it doesn't want to deal with them again. A raindrop lands on my hand, and I pull away from my neck.
She laughs sarcastically and rolls her eyes. I think she's avoiding tears. "Exactly. You meant what you said, Chad Dylan Cooper. Don't you dare ever to speak to me again." Her back is toward me now, and she's walking away.
You're supposed to chase after her. You're supposed to apologize. You're supposed to let her know how you feel about her, and maybe if she knew that, maybe she'd understand. Maybe she wants to you run after her.
More raindrops begin to hit my head. Before I know it, I'm soaking. I run towards Sonny, ignoring the puddles I'm splashing in. She's already sitting in her car. Her head is in her hands. Lightning flashes in the sky.
I stand by the driver's side door and tap on the window. Quickly she looks up and scowls. I hear a boom of thunder. I tap harder.
She rolls down the window while trying to wipe away her tears, "What."
"Sonny, I'm sorry. I'm so stupid. I never should've said that. Whatever I said. I take back every word that ever hurt you, Sonny. I promise I never meant to hurt you. I'm Chad Dylan Cooper, remember? I'm a stupid... stupid person who doesn't think before they speak. Please, just please stop crying and forgive me."
She stares out of the windshield. Her cold eyes suggest that I should go. I turn around to walk back to the studio.
"Chad, wait," she calls. I turn around. The rain's beginning to clear as she wipes a final tear from her face, "You're soaking wet. Mr. Condor will kill you."
I walk toward the passenger seat and before I get there, she has already leaned over to open the door.
As I buckle myself in she starts the car. Before changing gears, she looks over to me and smiles. I smile back, and look out the windshield.
The sun is beginning to break out as the clouds move away, clearing the sky.
For the record, I had no idea what this story was going to be about, and I did not intend for it to be this short.
So, what'd you think?
I promise to have something with a point next time. haha.
The first line is a lyric from "High of 75". So I didn't write it.
