AN: So I have been thinking about writing an Oliver/Hermione story for awhile now and I think I have a pretty solid idea that will give the characters justice. I honestly think Oliver Wood is a great character that wasn't in the books or movies often enough. I'm hoping that even though this is a time-turner Fanfic that you'll still be able to enjoy it. I don't know how often I will be able to update this story since I have eight others in the works. At the longest it will be a month between postings but hopefully it will be once a week. Once again anything you recognize is JK Rowling's anything you don't is mine.
Hermione POV
The battle was roaring around me. Death Eaters had made it into the castle. My home was being destroyed and I was fighting with everything inside of me the only way I knew how. By destroying the Horcruxes Tom "Voldemort" Riddle had made so that he could be immortal.
The walls of Hogwarts shook around me with each new explosion. Ron and Harry were both panting next to me and I coughed roughly. I had swallowed too much smoke in the Room of Hidden Things. But I had found something in the room before it burned that could potentially help us. A Time-turner. I placed the necklace over my head before turning to my boyfriend and Harry; ignoring Malfoy and Goyle, who had both passed out.
Ron was looking around frantically his face pale so that he was the same color as Sir Nicholas, the Gryffindor house ghost. Harry was also looking around and his eyes flashed red for a moment.
"Where's Ginny?" He asked sharply standing shakily. "She was here. She was supposed to be going back into the Room of Requirement!"
"Blimey, d'you reckon it'll still work after that fire?" Ron asked, but he too got to his feet, rubbing his chest and looking left and right. The front of his shirt was smoking slightly. "Shall we split up and look—?"
"No," I said slowly getting to my feet. Malfoy and Goyle remained slumped hopelessly on the corridor floor; neither of them had wands but I ignored them. "Let's stick together. I say we go—Harry, what's that on your arm?"
My eyes widened at the sight of the ornate tiara that was hanging from his arm. No bloody way! He found it?!
"What? Oh yeah –"
Harry pulled the diadem from his wrist and held it up. For one moment it looked perfectly innocuous and then it seemed to shudder. A bloodlike substance, dark and tarry, seemed to be leaking from the diadem. It broke in two pieces and then the faintest of screams came from the Horcrux.
"It must have been Fiendfyre!" I whimpered softly staring at the diadem that was now ruined. How could Crabbe do something so stupid?
"Sorry?" Ron asked raising his eyebrow.
"Fiendfyre – cursed fire — it's one of the substances that destroy Horcruxes, but I would never, ever have dared use it, it's so dangerous — how did Crabbe know how to—?"
"Must've learned from the Carrows," Harry said grimly.
"Shame he wasn't concentrating when they mentioned how to stop it, really," said Ron running a hand through his singed hair. "If he hadn't tried to kill us all, I'd be quite sorry he was dead."
"But don't you realize?" I whispered, "This means, if we can just get the snake –"
But I broke off as yells and shouts and the unmistakable noises of dueling filled the corridor. I looked around and my heart seemed to fail: Death Eaters. Fred and Percy backed into view, both of them dueling masked and hooded men.
Ron, Harry and I ran forward to help: Jets of light flew in every direction and the man dueling Percy backed off, fast: Then his hood slipped and they saw a high forehead and streaked hair—
"Hello, Minister!" Percy bellowed, sending a neat jinx straight at Thicknesse, who dropped his wand and clawed at the front of his robes, apparently in awful discomfort. "Did I mention I'm resigning?"
"You're joking, Perce!" Fred shouted as the Death Eater he was battling collapsed under the weight of three separate Stunning Spells. Thicknesse had fallen to the ground with tiny spikes erupting
all over him; he seemed to be turning into some form of sea urchin. Fred looked at Percy with glee.
"You actually are joking, Perce. . . . I don't think I've heard you joke since you were –"
The air suddenly exploded. We had been grouped together, Ron, Harry, Fred, Percy and I, the two Death Eaters at our feet, one Stunned, the other Transfigured; and in that fragment of a moment, when danger seemed temporarily at bay, the world was rent apart. I flew back through the air and gripped tightly to my wand in one hand and tried to grab for Ron's hand with my other but I missed.
I could feel myself sliding across the floor and tried to find something to hold onto. Nothing stopped me. I screamed sharply when the floor beneath me gave way and I rolled down the tower roof. I reached up and grabbed the edge of the roof. It was jagged and cut into my hand but I didn't dare let go. If I did I would surely fall to my death. I looked up to try and see the others but I could only see the small slope I had fallen down.
"RON!" I screamed desperately trying to pull myself up. "RON HELP ME!" But no one came to help pull me up. I pressed my lips firmly together so I wouldn't sob.
"It's Potter's Mudblood!" A Death Eater roared from above me. I stared resolutely ahead so I wouldn't see him.
"You're right it is! We should bring her as a prize to the Dark Lord since Potter and the blood traitor got away." I gave a soft sob. He got away! Ron and Harry both got away! The thought seemed to give me some courage and I looked up at the two Death Eaters. Both were masked and were trying to climb down to where I was. I didn't have much time before they got to me,
"HERMIONE!" I looked down and saw Oliver Wood flying expertly on a broomstick his brown hair blowing in the wind. "Let go I'll catch you!"
"Are you crazy?!" I shrieked.
"NO! I'll catch you I promise." He said flying upwards then stopped. His brown eyes widened and his mouth dropped open in horror. "LOOK OUT!"
I looked up and shrieked. A giant spider, the size of a small car, was rapidly making its way past the Death Eaters towards me. All three of them were quickly coming towards me and I snapped my eyes shut.
"LET GO HERMIONE!" I sobbed and let go off the roof. It took all of my courage to do so. For one moment I was free falling then the next I slammed against a pair of arms. "Are you alright?"
I shakily looked around and gave a dry sob. "I'm alive, if that's what you mean."
"No," Oliver shook his head his brown eyes flashing. "I mean are you hurt?"
"I don't think so but –"
"There she is!" I looked up at the two Death Eaters. Both of them threw spells at me at the same time. I turned my face away shielding myself from the blue and yellow light knowing it would be the last thing I would do. Oliver pulled me against his chest and I felt the two spells hit my chest.
"Did they get you?" Oliver roared flying away in the opposite direction. I looked down and gasped sharply. The spells hadn't hit my body at all but the stolen Time-turner. It was spinning out of control and the sand inside had turned a brilliant orange color. "Hermione – IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS?!"
I opened my mouth to respond but stopped when everything around us darkened and I felt the unmistakable feeling of traveling backwards in time.
