Captain McCursey sat rigid in his command seat. He barked order after order at his bridge crew. As the commander of the USS Unionbay, he was responsible for the safety of Earth. It was the second time the Krenum had attacked after their arrival in the Alpha Quadrant. McCursey was glad that they had not succeeded in attacking with their time weapons. Two Galaxy class cruisers had destroyed a Krenum time vessel. If the aliens had succeeded in their attack against the planet, the first faster-than-light capable ship would never have been built, which would wipe out any trace of the Federation.

The USS Unionbay had come under heavy fire by the Krenum's conventional weapons. 5 hull breaches had occurred in the last hour. 23 ships were back at base under repairs, and 15 had been destroyed. Each ship had temporal shielding to protect the ship and crew against any temporal incursion.

"Alright crew, we are going to give all our power to weapons and shields", the captain yelled over the explosions. "I don't care if we burn out all the conduits in the process, we're gonna go out guns blazing!" The man was overconfident. The Unionbay class heavy cruiser had extensive damage already and was weakening. The torpedoes would not hold out much longer, and the phasers were at 50% strength.

"Sir, the Krenum is preparing another temporal incursion. They have another timeship!" The operations officer bellowed through the acrid smoke." I am activating the temporal shielding" McCursey knew that if the Krenum annihilated Earth, the starships would be the only trace of Earth left in the Galaxy, if the shielding worked.

In a flash of bright light, the time ship started the first stage of the beam, but the stream stopped short. After five seconds, McCursey sought his tactical officer's information. "Tactical, what's going on"? The captain wanted to know why their enemy had shown them mercy, or if it was just a firing glitch. He kept his eyes on the screen as he listened for the reply to his question.

"I'm not sure, but I think the weapon...." Another flash of light filled the screen, but this time it did not continue towards the Starfleet ships converging. The shock wave turned towards the Krenum ship. As the wave passed through, the ship began to change. The tactical officer finished his sentence,".... Backfired." The weapon had reverted the enemy ship back into the specie's first warp capable vessel. With minimal weapons, the craft could not destroy a Starfleet vessel.

McCursey could not believe what had just happened. The enemy was vulnerable, and the fleet jumped at the chance at the chance to obliterate their enemy. The silent crew watched as 5 luminous torpedoes spread from each Starfleet vessel. The warheads destroyed the forward hull of the bulky spacecraft. The Unionbay could only eject 2 torpedoes, but it was enough to deplete the adversary's power. A brilliant explosion occurred, and added a small amount of light to the dark bridge. Starfleet had done it. They had destroyed the Krenum fleet. McCursey was proud of his crew and his ship. The Unionbay was still in one piece, and McCursey intended to keep it that way
