Author's Note: I love writing for this pairing so much. This episode almost killed me! They were so close to talking about their relationship and didn't. I had to write something and I'll continue it if there's interest.

"Shut up, Nick," she said quietly.

He shut his mouth and stared at the fish sticks she had dropped seconds earlier. He didn't know if she was processing what he said or didn't want to hear any more but he complied. She must be livid with him. Ever since the kiss, he's been acting like it didn't mean anything. It felt easier than dealing with the consequences. He'd rather act like he didn't know better than admit that he was responsible for Jess and Sam's breakup, the new weirdness between them, and the fact that he broke the No Nail Oath that he requested in the first place.

At the time, he'd thought he was setting it up for Schmidt. To protect Jess from his douche baggery. But if he was honest with himself, he was doing it for him. Because the thought of having to see anyone with her, especially someone that he lived with, put a bad taste in his mouth.

And now look what he had done. He'd kissed her and it had ruined everything. Classic Nick Miller move, find a girl, fall for her, kiss her, and never be able to be close to her ever again. He'd really done it this time.

"Well, say something!" Jess yelled at him, breaking the silence.

"You told me to shut up!" Nick snapped back at her.

"I didn't mean for you to really shut up, Nick!" she countered.

"Well, I'm sorry, Jessica, that I can't tell when 'shut up' means shut up and when it means don't shut up. I'm not a mind reader!" he could feel his face getting red as he yelled.

"Shut up, Nick!" Jess turned her back to him and took a few steps away from him. He could hear her taking deep breaths.

"Do you mean actually shut up or don't this time?" he asked. He felt terrible. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her. In the year and a half that they'd known each other she had become one of his best friends. Regardless of weather or not he should have kissed her, he should try to be there for her.

He took a few steps forward and put his hand on her shoulder.

"Jess?" he almost whispered.

And before he new what was going on she spun around and grabbed him by the back of the head, pulling his lips down to hers.

Eagerly trying to catch up, Nick shaped his mouth around hers. He slid his hands around her waist holding her as close to him as possible. He slid his hand up her back, tangling it in her hair. She sighed against his lips before pressing them against his again.

Finally she broke the kiss.

"How's that for a long term solution?" she asked after catching her breath.

"Are you sure about this?" he asked.

"As long as you don't let Schmidt or Winston nail me, yes." she told him.

"Well, technically, I'd have to nail you first..." he said with a glint in his eye.

"Play your cards right and maybe you will," Jess laughed but she didn't seem like she was joking.

It was then that Schmidt stumbled in with a wet stain on his pants, completely ruining the mood.

"Oh, and don't even get me started on you two!" he cried, heading for his room. "Nothing going on my eye. Nick Miller you have broken the most sacred of oaths and I am having none of it. And Jessica, I expected better from you. You are out of his league."

He slammed the door behind him and Nick and Jess burst out laughing.
