Author Note: A bit of background: Emily Prentiss is a bit different in my story. While Emily was spying on Ian Doyle as Lauren, she became pregnant with his child, or well children. She never told anyone whose children she had and no one really questioned her. She joined the BAU three months after her twins were born. Also Hotch and Hailey are not married anymore because Hailey didn't want to force Hotch to have to choose, but she gave up rights to Jack. Sorry if that's a lot of background, but if I didn't explain, it wouldn't quite make sense. Oh and by the way in some chapters I might skip years between that chapter and the one before it but I will let you know if that happens.
Emily's POV
"I have bottles of formula prepared and they are in the fridge if the twins get hungry. Their feeding schedule is on the table along with their naptime routines and also their favorite stuffed animals and items." I hurried around the kitchen trying to make sure everything was set up for the twins first day without me, since I had to get to my new job at the BAU.
"Ms. Prentiss-"
"Also, Natalia likes to sleep with Mozart playing, while Nathan likes Beethoven, so there is a playlist on the iPod in the docking station called sleep time, it switches between the two so that both are happy."
"Ms. Prentiss, we have already-"
"Also, my cell number is written on the bulletin board and also I wrote it on papers on both the desk in my room and the one in the office. What else am I forgetting?"
"Ms. Prentiss, We went over this all last week when I came over to watch their routines. Everything will be fine. This is difficult I know." Sarah Williams, the nanny I hired to watch the twins, tries to assure me while I try to get ready to leave for the BAU.
"I feel like I am going to miss out on their lives by leaving." I see the twins in the playpen. I walk over to them. "I want them to know their Mommy." Natalia reaches up towards me.
"They do know you, see?" I scoop Natalia up and cradle her in my arms. "It's not like you are leaving them forever, just a few hours a day, and maybe a few days when your cases take you out of town. But they know their mom." Nathan reaches towards me, jealous of the attention his twin was getting.
"Come here big boy." I shift Natalia to one arm so that I can pick up Nathan too. "Ok my little angels, Mommy has to go to work but she will come home to you both as soon as possible. Be nice for Ms. Sarah. I love you both." I kiss both of them.
"Ms. Prentiss-"
"Call me Emily, please."
"Ok, Emily, you need to get going if you want to be on time." She holds her arms open and I pass the twins to her.
"Yes I know, don't want to be late on the first day." I grab my suit jacket from the chair and put it over my blue button up. I grab my keys before walking over and kissing both Natalia and Nathan one more time before grabbing my purse and walking out of the apartment, having to ignore the urge to run back inside and grab Natalia and Nathan in my arms and never letting go. I get in my car and start to drive to the Quantico Office of the FBI. I think through my last job, wanting to forget it even though it resulted in the births of Natalia and Nathan, knowing that I couldn't let any job result like the Lauren one. I check my back seat to make sure that my box of paperwork is there. I pull into the parking lot and after parking I walk to the front desk.
"Name?" A security guard asks.
"Agent Emily Prentiss," I say happy to be back with my own name.
"Oh ok, our new agent. Here's your badge and Agent Hotchner should have your gun. Go on up." I hold onto my purse and my box as I start to the elevator. I see a blond woman sitting at a desk with the name plate Jennifer Jareau on the desk. "Excuse me; can you direct me to Aaron Hotchner's office?"
"Yes it's up those stairs, first door as you get up there."
"Thank you." I walk up to Aaron Hotchner's office. The door is propped open so I knock to let him know I am here.
"Come in."
"Hi, Agent Hotchner?" I set my box and purse in one of his chairs.
"Yes."
"Agent Emily Prentiss." I offer him my hand.
"How do you do?" He shakes my hand. "Oh you're Ambassador Prentiss's daughter." I nod. "I did security clearances for your mother's staff; it was one of my first commands. I think you were off to Brown at the time."
"Actually it was Yale." He lets out a small laugh. "I've been in the Bureau for almost ten years now." More or less so anyway.
"Don't tell me that. Has it really been that long?"
"Apparently sir, but I worked mainly in the Midwest, St. Louis, Chicago." A pause of silence goes by.
"Your parents well?"
"Yeah, yeah, they're great."
"Excellent." He pauses, waiting for me to say something I guess. "What can I do for you?"
"Well I guess I was wondering if you could tell me where to put my stuff."
"I'm sorry?"
"I'm supposed to start here today." I grab the paper work out of my box, a little confused myself. "At the BAU," I hand him the folder.
"There's been a mistake," What?
"I don't think so sir."
"There's definitely been a mistake."
"Excuse me," Jennifer Jareau knocks on the door. "Sorry, but we are about to get started." She says to Agent Hotchner.
"Thank you I'll be right there." Jennifer Jareau walks away. "I didn't approve this transfer Agent Prentiss. I'm sorry for the confusion, but you've been misinformed." He hands me the folder back. "Excuse me, it was very good to see you again." I dump the folder back in my box and pick my stuff up trying to follow him.
"Uh…" I stop at his door and watch him walk over to an older man and they talk for a short bit before looking in my direction, before walking away to the conference room, both looking confused. I wait to see what is going on, I really need this job.
