Initiation day, the day where everyone who chose our faction arrives. I remember when I was in this position, leaving Abnegation, everything from my childhood, and especially my father. I hear his voice in my head "This if for your own good Tobias".
I try to ignore all the thoughts, and I try to focus on the initiates that should be arriving soon. The first jumper should be getting ready to jump not long from now, who would it be, were they Dauntless born or a faction transfer?
Lauren, the Dauntless born initiates instructor, and I wait for the first jumper to come. After while of waiting I see a figure reaching the net. It seems like it's a girl, and as she reaches closer, her features are becoming more clear. She is wearing grey, like what the Abnegation wear. She is Abnegation, she comes from my faction. She is the only other Abnegation to transfer to Dauntless.
She drops into the net and I decide to help her out. I grab onto the net and she rolls over in my direction. I grab on to her arms and lift her out of the net. Her eyes catch my attention. What's this feeling inside of me? It's nothing like I've felt before. I let go of her and she says,
"Thank you".
I am staring at her as someone behind me says, "Can't believe it," I'm recognizing the voice, "A Stiff, the first to jump? Unheard of."
"There's a reason why she left them, Lauren," I snap at her. I straighten up a bit and say,
"What's your name?"
She looks unsure "Um…"
This reminds me of myself,
"Think about it," I feel a smile starting on my face, "You don't get to pick again."
"Tris," She says, more confident than before.
"Tris," Lauren says, "Make the announcement, Four"
"First Jumper-Tris!"
Everyone starts cheering and before anyone takes her away from me, I'm finding myself putting a hand on her shoulder, there is that feeling again. That feeling I felt when I first saw her. I'm not sure of what it is, but it feels good,
"Welcome to Dauntless." I say.
After everyone has jumped, we lead the initiates through a narrow tunnel. Suddenly, we stop,
"This is where we divide," Lauren says. "The Dauntless-born initiates are with me. I assume you don't need a tour of the place."
She smiles and I continue,
"Most of the time I work in the control room, but for the next few weeks, I am your instructor,"
My eyes move towards Tris,
"My name is Four,"
I feel a slight smile on my face as I'm looking at Tris, when suddenly someone next to her says,
"Four? Like the number?"
I don't know who she is, but she's already getting on my nerves,
"Yes," I snap back, "Is there a problem?"
She looks a bit scared now,
"No," She replies slightly worried,
"Good. We're about to go into the Pit, which you will someday learn to love. It-" I continue, as I get interrupted again by the same girl,
"The Pit? Clever name" She says, with an attitude,
I walk up to her and I lean my face closer to hers and I'm trying to intimidate her, my eyes narrow and I stare at her for a few seconds,
"What's your name?" I say quietly,
"Christina," she squeaks, she's sounding really nervous now,
"Well, Christina, if I wanted to put up with Candor smart-mouths, I would have joined their faction," I hiss, "The first lesson you will learn from me is to keep your mouth shut. Got that?"
She nods like she's frightened by me.
