Max pushed back the curtain to his tent as he entered. "That's an unusual sight."
"What?" Vince smiled.
"You're smiling." Max walked over to the counter to pour himself a drink. "That was quite a secret you were keeping for that girl." Max turned around.
"It wasn't mine to tell." Vince sat in a chair nearby.
Max sat down opposite him. "I have a feeling that's not why you are here for this little chat right now."
Vince leaned forward. "I saw my wife today."
"Umm Hmmm," Max commented.
"I had to have Dana's help to get into see Holloway, so I could find out where they were keeping Orwell."
"So, you're telling me that you broke into the lion's den swarming with ARK guards?" Max swirled the drink in his glass. "I'm glad I got a drink for this one."
"It was the only way."
"Do you know what Ruvi would say right now, if he was here?" Max raised an eyebrow.
"Don't get cocky. I know. I wasn't. I didn't come in here to get lectured." Vince's tone echoed with irritation.
"I don't do lectures. I do performances," Max said theatrically before returning to a normal tone of voice. "How did your wife handle meeting the Cape?"
Vince leaned back in the chair. "She initially freaked out. Told Tripp to call 911 and told me to get away from her son."
Max watched the pain momentarily cross Vince's face as he stressed the word her, but it was gone in an instant. "How did your son handle it?"
A faint smile appeared on Vince's face. "He apologized for her. Told her to stop embarrassing him."
"He wasn't scared?" Max was pretty sure where this was going.
"This wasn't the first time I'd seen him."
"So, you've been making regular visits then?" Max once again swirled his glass.
"He needs someone to look up to."
"How did you convince her that you weren't just some crazy guy in a mask?"
"I disappeared and reappeared on the other side of the balcony."
"And that helped," Max asked skeptically.
"I showed her that the Cape does have some tricks up his sleeve and is not just in Tripp's imagination."
"But that is not what swayed her." Max said seriously.
"I told her that she knew in her gut that I was telling the truth."
"So, how did she help you pull off this daring plan of yours?" Max asked before taking another sip.
"She contacted her boss, Travis, who let me in."
"Ah, and the plot thickens. A new player on the scene." Max smiled. "How did you make your exit? You know your exit is very important."
"I put my hand up to the glass and told her thank you." Vince closed his eyes reliving the moment. "I swear I could feel her in that instant."
Max leaned forward slightly. "The better question isn't how did your wife react to seeing The Cape, but how are you handling seeing your wife?"
Vince sighed. "You should have seen the way she was talking with her boss trying to convince him to help out."
"You feel like you're being replaced?"
Vince took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "Their interaction didn't seem romantic."
"But you still feel left behind."
"I know that she can't stay stuck in that moment…"
"You're afraid she doesn't have anything left to hold onto." Max leaned forward further. "What did she do when you put your hand on the glass?"
"She held hers on there too."
"You have nothing to worry about." Max leaned back taking a sip of his drink.
Vince got up and started to walk out. He turned around at the entrance. "I hope you're right."
After a moment, Max said, "Except that you just tipped your hand."
