So this was something I wrote for my dad because he was super upset with Beth's death, and he always wanted to see her go this way.
He is also the one who named it, and this story will be dedicated to him.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Walking Dead or the characters from the show. I just like to play with them. ;)
Smoke still rose in the air as the group of survivors made their way towards the wreckage that had once been their home. Most of the prison lay in a pile of ruins with the exception of cell block C.
They could rebuild. They could fix this. But was it even worth it? So many dark memories would still linger making living there miserable. Numerous people had died at the hands of the governor; many families torn apart. And while he no longer lived, the pain he caused remained.
"Rick and I will check for survivors," Daryl announced as he removed his crossbow from his back aiming it towards the rubble in front of him, "Everyone else, search for supplies. Take only what we need."
Rick and Daryl made their way towards cell block C while the others walked through the prison yard. Most of the Walkers were long gone, though a few loitered aimlessly around the yard. Michonne and Carl made quick work of them while Glen comforted Maggie. Her father Hershel had just been beheaded, and her sister Beth was one of the few people still missing, along with Judith and Carol.
Rick all but ran through the broken fences ignoring any cuts and bruises he would acquire from the twisted metal.
"Calm down, Rick. We will find her. She will be just fine."
Daryl's words were anything but comforting to Rick. He had an intense feeling of dread. After all, Judith was just a baby. How would she be able to survive the wrath of Walkers by herself? He could only hope that Beth had found her and was taking care of her as she so often did.
Rick only nodded in response and followed Daryl into the darkened Cell block C. He pulled out a flashlight and walked slowly while Daryl scanned the area making sure no walkers were around. They gazed in each cell finding a few bullets, food, and other supplies that they could use.
When they came to the last cell they noticed something kneeling in the corner. Rick shined the light directly on the object only to find blonde hair tied in a ponytail facing their way.
"Beth!" Daryl exclaimed his voice filled with raw emotion, "I knew we would find you. Is Judith with you?"
Beth slowly stood from where she was crouched in the corner and turned towards Rick and Daryl. In her hands she held baby Judith.
Daryl dropped his bow in shock and Rick let out an ear piercing scream.
Beth was a walker, and in her arms was the half eaten body of Rick's daughter.
Beth looked at them and then at the baby and continued eating Judith, as if she had never been interrupted.
