Suna no Oshiro
By SMYGO4EVA

The hourglass lets time pas through hands stained with blood, simply caressing the golden sands to the softest touch. What you cannot predict will never be prevented – that is the end of the matter. Even if you looked hard enough, even if you see what is here and in the distant future, there is no escaping it. What is foretold will indeed become the true reality. Trapped inside the glass prison, held against one's own wishes, one is only a captive in the prison they brought upon themselves. From now on, darkness lives on, after the light is snuffed out of existence.

In the dark abyss you dwell in, in your most heinous nightmares, you cry and scream all you want but nobody can hear you – it is useless. The oblivion of knowledge is far more than just a curse of the mind; it is a mark that lives on for all eternity. The answers to your never-ending questions will never come, never to heed your pleading words, never again to soothe you with the key to your freedom. The glass cannot break, but when it does, you will only tumble down through the many levels of Hell, the hell that you brought yourself into by your despair and your oblivion that you hold recklessly.

You try with all your might to break the glass that is ensnaring you, but the one who can hear is the demon, the demon that has created this god-forsaken realm just for you. He wishes for your affection; he writhes for your gentle caresses, but you can never be with him in your heart and soul. The pretty gold and amber shimmers in your eyes, dear Serenity, but you know that you can never love him – because he is stained with blood of innocents, the blood of your friends who were simply in the way of his destiny. The destiny that is to obtain you and hold you in his realm for all time had been fulfilled, and now you can only wait for your fate to be sealed. Your soft hands have become stained now, stained as the glass windows of a holy place, a place where you can no longer dwell in anymore.

You see all that is to come, quiet one. You have seen what has become of your future and what has destroyed your past. The demon is a part of you now, since he has destroyed all that you had left – your friends, your family, and your past, present and now your future. He has destroyed everything except for you. You brought this upon yourself for not heeding the words of your friends, all just to satisfy your curiosity. You know what they say, dear Serenity, curiosity killed the cat. No one can hear your scream as you beg for everything you had lost, not even in this empty abyss. In the castles of sand, all is a part of what you couldn't prevent, and fate has secretly conspired against you all along.

It is too late. He has you now, the demon, in chains and trapped inside the hourglass, the sand relentlessly reminding you what you have lost and what has become of you and your twisted fate. In the castle of sand, no one can save you, not even your beloved brother and his friend, the one you had secretly loved but never had the courage to tell him how you felt. That is the mark of a coward, and for that, you will suffer forever with the demon. Yes, you chose this and from now on, you will be trapped in the castle of sand forevermore.

(A.N: For Journey Maker, for her story "Opening The Gates Of Hell" inspired me to write this very drabble, which has hints of the story as well.)
