I do not own X-men or anything in the Marvel universe at all. This is just a rambling useless story I made using their characters

Tabby carefully folded her jeans and put them into the beat-up backpack on the foot of her bed. She had returned to the mansion three months before and now… She really had tried to fit in with the other students this time. She had gone to danger room sessions and had worked hard to develop her powers. She had tried to follow the rules. However, no matter how hard she tried to belong, the others just didn't understand. They were her friends, closer to her than the brotherhood boys had ever been, but she just was not one of them. She was a rebel; she needed a different world. With the brotherhood, she felt like she belonged. They never made her feel like they were better than her. They were like a family. The x-men were just her friends.

It was hard to admit it to herself, but she hated being alone and feeling venerable, feelings that were all too common for her. Conning people and being loud, those were the traits people attached to her. There was more to her. She wanted to be seen as the person she really was, but she was afraid. Yes, she did like partying and having fun. She was kind of insane, but she was bigger than that. The brotherhood boys had thought she left because Mystique would have expected her to follow the rules. She had left because if Mystique made her follow the rules, she wouldn't be able to hide behind the disguise she made for herself and someone might see the person underneath. She had become too good at conning people to allow them to con her. Her father had known her weaknesses and had used her. She would not let anyone use her, not anymore. Which made her wonder why she couldn't stay at the mansion. It was a safe place where no one was looking to hurt her. Perhaps it was that safety that scared her. The brotherhood might see the real her, but at least they wouldn't try to tear down the walls surrounding her. They would lether be the person she wanted to be.They knew what it was like to pretend.

Tabby picked up the backpack and walked through the empty halls of the institute. She looked at the stolen money in her hand. Normally it wouldn't bother her, but she wasn't taking from her brothers, she was taking it from her friends, even if they had more than they needed. The boys would have understood. She lowered her head and walked out the door.

R and R pretty please
