Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Star Trek characters, they belong to Paramount. I also do not own the song He Plays the Violin sung by Betty Buckley and belongs to Sherman Edwards.
Christine Chapel watched as the growing crowd in the recreational room. She was playing with her pale, light blue dress with her ever growing stage fright . She didn't know how she let Uhura talked her into this singing a song especially one directed at her crush; Spock. The only reply she had gotten from Uhura was that this would help her bear her love that will probably never be noticed by the man she loved . She was relieved when she received the news that he was not coming tonight because he other priorities to attend to. Christine almost didn't hear herself being introduced by Uhura.
Christine walked out as gracefully as she could with her shaky legs and the audience clapped loudly for her. She glanced at Uhura who was seated at the piano and nodded to her as she starting to play. Then Christine started to sing:
He plays the Vulcan lyre
He tucks it right under his chin
And he strums, oh he strums
For he knows, yes he knows
That it's hi-hi-hi-diddle diddle
It's my heart, Spock and his lyre
My strings are unstrung
Hi-hi-hi-hi
I am undone
Christine then got caught up with the music and relaxed as she started to have fun with the song. When she had fun, she found that the audience had fun as well. So, she continued on with her song:
I hear his lyre
And I get that feeling within
And I sigh, oh I sigh
He draws near, very near
And it's hi-hi-hi-diddle diddle
Goodbye to the lyre
My strings are unstrung
Hi-hi-hi-hi
I'm always undone
The audience watched with rapt attention to her and that only fueled Christine's courage to sing on.
When heaven calls to me
Sing me no sad eulogy
Say I die, loving nurse
Loving friend, loving life
For it was hi-hi-hi-hi-diddle diddle
'Twixt my heart, Spock, and his lyre
And ever 'twill be
Hi-hi-hi-hi
Through eternity
He plays the Vulcan lyre
Once Christine was done the audience gave her a standing ovation and she felt a rush of adrenalin that made her really happy. She looked at Uhura and she only smiled. Christine did feel better getting her feelings all out in the open and who knows may be Spock would take notice of her someday. She could hope and dream and if he didn't take notice of her then she would at least be at peace with her feelings. This was her last thought to herself, as she was swept off the stage to converse with the admirers.
