Helena peeked around the corner only to find Kira working on something at the table, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
"Angel? What are you doing?" she asks as she walks over to the small child.
Kira looks up and smiles brightly, "Auntie Helena! I'm drawing a picture for Mummy. It's her birthday tomorrow."
"Birthday? What's so special bout this birthday?" she tilts her head in confusion. Kira frowned, "Everyone has a birthday and each year, friends and family celebrate it with you. And you get lots of presents and oh there's cake!"
Helena brightens at the thought of cake, "I will also draw for seestra." Kira smiles and gives her some spare paper and markers and together they start making their masterpiece.
The next day was a small affair with Mrs. S making Sarah's favourite meals (and Helena's though she didn't realize) and appearances from Alison and Cosima. When it was time for cake, Helena's eyes bulged at the sight of the red velvet cake.
"Wait wait, we're forgetting something." Sarah says before leaving and coming back with a box. She all but shoves it in Helena's face, "Here."
Helena frowns, confused, "What is it?" Sarah just rolls her eyes, "Just open it, meat head." Very carefully, she unties the string and opens the box to find a big chocolate cake saying "Happy Birthday Helena" on it.
"Seetra? It is your birthday, is it not?"
Sarah rubs the back of her head, "We're twins, yeah? That means it's your birthday too. And everyone deserves cake on their birthday." Everyone else gaps at her, "What? I can't do anything nice?" Felix smirks, "No. I was pretty sure pigs will fly before Sarah Manning would do something nice. In front of people too!"
"Piss off, you lil shit." Felix just smiles.
Meanwhile, Helena has not taken her eyes off of the cake. Seestra had gone out to get something for her, just to make her happy. "It's mine? For me?" her voice cracks from emotion.
"Yeah, Helena, it's for you but I want a piece kay? Now hurry up and put it down so we can eat it."
Helena puts the cake on the table reverently as if she is scared it will disappear if it's out of her hands, and then quickly turns around and gives Sarah the biggest hug she can manage. "I love you."
Uncomfortable, Sarah pats her back a couple times before wiggling out of it, "Yeah, yeah. Come on."
They sing happy birthday (mainly to annoy Sarah) and then the cake is cut and distributed, with Helena taking a third of her own cake, happily eating it with Kira.
After the cake is finished, Kira runs to her room to get her presents from its hiding place and runs back, hiding it behind her back.
Sarah smiles ear to ear and kneels down, "Hey, monkey? What do you got behind your back?"
Kira laughs, bringing one drawing forward, "Presents, Mummy. For you." It is a picture of everyone including Helena, Alison, and Cosima, together and smiling. "Aww baby, I love it. Thank you." Sarah laughs, giving Kira a big hug.
Kira then turns to Helena and gives her the other drawing of everyone holding hands, "Happy Birthday Auntie Helena!" She smiles as she hugs Kira, burrowing her head in her neck, "Thank you, angel. It is beautiful."
"Helena give Mummy yours now!" she says excitedly, pulling on her hand. Helena shyly takes the folded up drawing from her pocket and gives it to Sarah, "Happy Birthday seestra."
Sarah opens it up to find a picture of her and Helena holding hands with "seestras" scrawled at the top. And even though there is an alarming use of red and black she smiles, "Thanks, Helena. It's great."
Later when everyone has left or gone to sleep, Sarah will take the box that holds everything Kira has ever gave her and puts her newest drawing carefully inside. And then she finds another box and labels it Helena to go beside it.
