Here I go with another sort of small one-shot. This came out of no where, literally, during trigonometry when we finally finished log! Phew…anyways, I hope you all like it. I'll let you ponder on the title.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

-x-

"2x plus 7 equals x plus 18, what is x equivalent to?"

The raven-black haired girl tapped her pencil in irritation, letting out an inhuman growl that sounded much like her hanyō protector. Then gnawing at her bottom lip, Kagome felt her eye twitch simultaneously, as her brows furrowed in utter confusion.

I hate algebraHer thoughts trailed off as she sighed in dismay, letting her pencil drop onto the notebook whilst taking the opportunity of her now-free time to think about her journey that took place five hundred years in the past.

There, she didn't have the worry of exams, or the pressures of being a junior high-almost high schooler. As much as she detested in having to take exams and then facing Inuyasha's wrath for her late return, she would often find peace during the times she would be in her own era.

Her focus had drifted to the sound of her window opening and she knew that the one who mainly plagued her mind, whether it would be because of their daily fights or the small caring gestures, her half demon arrived.

First noting the small frown on his face, Kagome prepared for him to lecture her, and soon he opened his mouth to speak. "Oi, what's taking you so long wench? Don't you know that the longer you stay here, Naraku is collecting more shards of the jewel." Inuyasha had perched on the window sill.

A breeze blew from behind him and his hair had majestically flowed along with the wind. Kagome blinked various times, recalling his earlier words,"O-Oh…I just need to finish this last homework. Why don't you just si…take a seat until I'm done."

It was one of these times that she did not want a verbal confrontation between the two of them. Although she didn't mind that he had arrived at her time earlier than expected, to be frank, she enjoyed his silent company. However, the once neutral silence was broken when he asked a mere question.

"What does that mean?"

She smiled at his sudden curiosity at the math that he did not know about in her era. Her pleased grin that she received from his interest broadened at his small head tilt that reminded her of a puppy with an intense desire to know what a certain item was.

Her eyes set on her homework, which was still left unanswered, narrowed only to be replaced by confusion. Is there an easy way to explain this when even I don't know how to solve it?

"Um, well…you see here is that one would have to figure out what x is," Her brows furrowed at her somewhat easiest yet difficult explanation.

Inuyasha blinked various times and all he knew that there was a number on each side including an x, however the first one had a number next to the letter.

"Keh! If ya gotta solve for x then try putting the ones that match."

The modern miko gaped at him from over her shoulder, only to realize that he had crouched a little in order to get a better view. A light flush spread across her cheeks and her eyes darted toward her assigned homework. "I…t-thanks." She was slightly taken aback with the answer he gave her, but it made some sense, at least enough for her to understand.

The half dog demon took a step back, standing back up with his arms crossed, brushing off the fact that they were just close, noses nearly brushing at the nearness. In a way, this "algebra" she hated, didn't confuse him as much as he thought.

He'd be there to help her, even if she isn't in danger with demons. Similar to this "algebra" wherever Kagome was it equaled home. Kagome equals home, as simple as that.
