When the Doctor met her he didn't know her. She whispered a word into his ear that seemingly would mean nothing…but to him everything.
When she died he cried but only because he knew he would see her again. He would have to look once more at her, laugh with her, run with her, cry with her and lie to her.
Often during those happy times, when she did something amazing, he would freeze momentarily. A look of despair would sweep across his face. She knew better than to ask. During all the years she ran with him she had learnt that asking got you nowhere and running got you everywhere.
So that's what they did. Run. They ran across the stars, never stopping, the two of them racing across time and space. But while she ran, she wondered…why? Why did he sometimes look at her as if she was not there? Why did he cry when he updated his screwdriver and said, "It will save you"? Why did they keep running? He said they ran from dangerous aliens. But she couldn't help but debate silently why they never stopped. It was as if they were trying to outrun something he was scared of. And then…
She should have realised. That day when they stopped to gaze upon a beautiful sight, so stunning it took her breath away. He began to cry. She should have known…they had stopped, which meant whatever they were running from had caught them up but she didn't realise.
He gave her his screwdriver and he told her one word. She listened and took the screwdriver but she didn't understand. He never told her. When it was time to go he hugged her so tightly but she still didn't understand.
"Doctor, tell me what's going on."
He didn't answer, and she left.
As she walked away from him, however, he said just one word.
"Spoilers."
