"Hey, Canada! It's someone's birthday today!"
Canada heard a thumping on top of the bed as he slowly opened his eyes. "Come on, Dad! Wake up!" an impatient voice yelled into his face.
Canada suddenly jerked himself awake as the loud noise pierced his ears, spotting Ontario jumping up and down on his bed.
"Ontario!" Canada shouted, "get off my bed this instant! You'll break the frame!"
Quebec heard the ruckus, and he joined in with Ontario, leaping up and down in an alternating rhythm.
"Oh, and you too, Quebec!" Canada added, getting up and forcing Ontario and Quebec off the bed, causing them to land in a heap on the floor.
"You talkin' about me, by any chance?" Newfoundland asked as he got up from his bed and stepped up to Canada.
"…it's Newfoundland's birthday today?" New Brunswick asked, still asleep.
"Ooh! Almost forgot!" Nova Scotia woke up rapidly and hugged Newfoundland. "Happy birthday, bud."
"Thanks, Nova Scotia," Newfoundland smiled. Canada hugged him too, and soon all his other provinces joined together in a great big hug.
