Chapter One: How did I get here?
I remember the cold air stinging my face and fingers to the point that I couldn't feel them anymore. Each painful step had me wishing more and more that I hadn't run away in the first place. My home was far behind me and I was not turning back, no matter what. I came to a part of downtown that used to be so familiar to me. But now it seemed dark and unknown. Shops were just beginning to shut down and lights were turning off faster than I could run. I was starting to worry. I'm sure that police would be looking for me sometime soon so I needed a place to hide and get off my feet. I thought about going to Aunt Jamie and Uncle Eric's house, but they would turn me right in that's for sure, or maybe a friend's house. But I was positive that I didn't have any friends thanks to that witch people call my mom. So that idea was out of the question. My body was aching all over and I was running out of hope when a peculiar little shop seemed to appear on the corner. I figured it was my last hope and jogged to it with the dwindling amount of energy I still had left, considering I had been running non-stop for about a mile. I came to the door and walked in. A bell jingled above me as the door opened and as it closed. No one came out. I went to go sit down on one of the lounge chairs by the window and sat there for a minute or two, and still no one had come out. I distinctly remember that weird and queasy feeling inside me. I was being watched. And I knew it. I got up slowly and knocked on the shiny chocolate brown counter. Still no one came, so I knocked harder and yelled
"Is there anybody here?"
A sound came from behind me and I tried my hardest to keep my cool. I looked out the corner of my eye and saw nothing. I looked out the other corner and still saw nothing. I started to calm down a little when a deep voice said
"I think it's quite funny that you come into my shop and act as though I am not here."
I let out a scream and nearly fell to the ground because my legs turned to damn noodles. I stared at him. I saw that his beautiful eyes were curious and haunting at the same time. Plus they weren't the same color. One was a green, and the other was blue like the sea. His face was round but his facial features were well defined. His skin was a pasty white and he had a large scar that started at the corner of his eye and it ended at the cleft in his chin. This made me extremely uncomfortable. He reached out and touched my left shoulder with his very masculine hands. They seemed like the kind of hands that would strangle me if I said the wrong thing, but instead gestured me to sit down in the chair I had been sitting in before. I sat down, but this time, he was staring intently at me. He looked at me up and down. The tingly feelings inside me had increased dramatically and I felt that something really wrong was going on. I knew it.
