He'd never given her anything worth having.
Naruto showed her how to keep fighting, how to take that stubbornness inside of her and feed it, until the idea of quitting was something that an inner voice hissed petulantly and was never seriously considered.
Sasuke broke her heart, and taught her how to take the bloody, painful shards and use them to make herself stronger.
Tsunade took a girl, and taught her how to be a kunoichi.
Kakashi coughed, blood splattering past his lips, catching in the fabric of his mask. Sakura was crying, face streaked with tears and scratches and bruises. Her hands were faintly glowing, her chakra almost gone, and he watched as she bared her teeth, forced more energy from somewhere deep inside her, funneling it into him, fingers growing brighter through will alone.
All he'd ever done is take.
Kakashi raised a hand, pushed her hair off her forehead, and she fumbled in her motions. His fingers left bloody prints on her temple.
He let his hand fall.
"Sakura," he managed, breath rattling deep in his chest. "I have a present for you."
