Almost Requiem

SPOILERS—If you aren't caught up on Season 3 Glee episodes, stop reading. Tonight's episode left me with a lot of thoughts, but I was drawn to the very missing piece of how Santana would react to Dave's attempt. I'm not sure if this is a one-shot or a multi-chapter fic.

Santana burst through the choir room doors, out into quiet hallways. She ran sobbing, gasping for breath. She didn't stop until she made it to the deserted Cheerios locker room.

She hurried to the showers, and turned one on to piercing cold. She collapsed to the floor, with her uniform still on, letting the icy water fall on her skin. She rocked herself back and forth, and tried to find steady breathing.

How could this have happened? Dave didn't deserve this? How could she have stopped communicating with her former beard and not have been there for him? How could homophobic morons be allowed to make him feel like this?

Everything she dreaded happening to herself had happened to Dave. Sure, she had to deal with her grandmother's disgust, but he had to deal with taunting from numerous peers. She had Brittany and the Glee club. He had no one.

She heard the door to the locker room open, and quiet footsteps approach her. The water turned off and gentle hands wrapped a towel around her and enveloped the drenched girl into her arms.

"I got you, San. I'm here now." Brittany said kissing her temple.

"How could this happen?" Santana sobbed.

"I don't know. I'm so angry at those kids that bullied him. " Brittany said, and Santana looked up, seeing a very rare look in Brittany's eyes.

"It could have been one of us." Santana said softly. Brittany bit her lip and nodded, tears forming in her eyes.

"If you ever feel that way, pinky promise that you will tell me, or someone. Please." Brittany pleaded.

"I pinky promise, as long as you do the same. You are the best thing in my life, the brightest star in this messed up galaxy. I love you." Santana said, leaning forward to give her girlfriend a gentle kiss on the lips.

"I pinky promise too. I love you." Brittany replied.

"It was almost a requiem." Santana muttered.

"What's a requiem?"

"It's a mass for the dead, a song that is mainly chanted.." Santana said, trying to put the haunting song into a concise meaning.

"Almost requiem. " Brittany whispered to herself, as she drew Santana closer to her.
