Route 666-What if hallowed ground didn't destroy the spirit?
A/N: Thanks to Samgirl19 for the what if idea.
The brothers had just finished torching the most putrid-smelling corpse they had ever come across. "Do you think that will do it?" Sam asked.
Dean was just about to answer in the affirmative, when a monster truck appeared in front of them and revved its engine. "Apparently not," he said instead.
"I don't understand. How is it still around?" Sam asked.
"It must be connected to the truck. I'll draw it off, you find a way to burn the truck."
"How am I supposed to do that?" Sam asked.
"I don't know, just do it," Dean yelled as he sped off.
After flipping through their dad's journal, Sam picked up his phone and called Cassie. "Cassie, it's Sam, I need some information, quick!" Sam demanded.
"Sure, what?" Cassie asked.
"That church that burned down, where is it?"
Cassie told him and Sam hung up and called Dean.
"What are we doing?" Dean asked.
"Do you see a road up ahead on the left?" Sam asked.
"Yes," Dean answered.
"Turn there," Sam instructed.
"What?"Dean asked. The truck was pulling up on his left. He slammed on his brakes and the truck sailed on past. Dean made the turn and the truck quickly turned around and was right behind Dean again. "What do I do now?" Dean shouted into the phone.
"Just keep driving. Make sure you go at least 7/10ths of a mile."
Dean passed that point with the truck right behind him. He looked in the rearview mirror and saw a bunch of kids jump on the truck and they all disappeared in a flame.
"Whoah," Dean said.
"What happened?" Sam asked, "Is it gone?"
"Yeah, all these kids came out of nowhere, jumped on the truck and they flamed out," Dean explained.
"Huh? I wasn't expecting that," Sam said.
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"You're where the church was, where Cyrus killed all those kids," Sam told Dean.
"So those must have been the ghosts of those kids and their energies cancelled each other out," Dean said.
"Must be," Sam agreed.
"What did you expect to happen, then?"Dean asked, curious.
"Well, I saw in dad's journal that sometimes when evil spirits pass over hallowed ground they're destroyed, so, I thought maybe…" Sam trailed off.
"Maybe? What if you were wrong?" Dean demanded. "Besides, why would you even think that would work? Just a couple of months ago you were attacked by the Hook Man, AKA and evil spirit, in a church." Dean was really yelling now.
"Oh. I forgot about that," Sam admitted.
Dean hung up the phone angrily. "He forgot about that," he said in a mocking tone. "I hope he enjoys the walk back from the lake."
The End
