The prologue of MoonKit's Destiny
The ThunderClan Prophecy:
Only the moon's light and the Wolf's claws can clear the darkness that will fall upon the clans in the from of blood and trees
"Petalfur, are you sure you're alright?" "Yes Birchheart, I'm fine," Petalfur insisted. Sure, she was exhausted from having three kits, but she was alright, really.
"We should name this one, Petalfur meowed, nudging a black she-cat, Ashkit."
"And that one, Birchheart said excitedly, pointing his tail at a black she-cat with a white pelt, Snowkit." "Good name," Petalfur said. "And that kit…" she said, regarding a black and white female tortoiseshell, Sootkit."
"And the last one- huh," Birchheart exclaimed. "It's a tom, interesting… I thought they were all she-cats. "Whatever, he's gonna be an awesome son. I'll name him…" Seeing at the tom's black pelt with a white circle on the back, chose the name…
"Moonkit," Birchheart confirmed. "His name is Moonkit."
Then, as the couple patiently waited as the kits opened their eyes, they barely managed noticed something. Ashkit had dark eyes like the night sky, while Snowkit had blue eyes, Sootkit had dark eyes as well, and then Moonkit…
"Different coloured eyes!" The ThunderClan medicine cat, Leafpool exclaimed, suprised. Surely enough, one eye was blue, the other amber. "Yes," Birchheart and Petalfur said simultaneously. "Is it a curse?" "Differently coloured eyes… no, I don't know what this is, it just changes the hosts' eyes or eye, and could be a bad or a good thing."
"I'm sorry I can't help you that much," the medicine cat meowed, before coughing a bit. "No, it's alright," the mates responded before giving eachother worried glances.
The young couple walked away to the nursery, fearful about one certain little kit.
That was Moonkit... now for Wolfkit!
"Sharpstar!" yelped the dark grey she-cat. "What happened Brightscar, are the kits ok!" the tortoiseshell tom replied with a worried expression on his face. Brightscar replied in an excited voice, "They're opening their eyes!" Dragonstar quickly rushed to the scene where his mate had been. "Look!" Brightscar cried.
Dragonstar watched in anxiously as his first kit opened its eyes. The kit was a tortoiseshell with some white, was a tom and had flaming amber eyes filled with strength just like him. Sharpstar beamed, "This kit has eyes of strength; I suggest the name Lionkit." Brightscar tiredly nodded in agreement.
Brightscar started looking at another one of her kits, this kit was also a tom, his fur had the same colours of a fox and had green eyes with the shiny pupils and mischief. Brightscar thought about and liked the name and announced, "This little one can be Foxkit."
At the same moment, another kit cried out for attention. The kit was a tom just like his brothers. He was black, orange and different shades of grey everywhere. The kit also had his left ear covered in white along with having all of his paws white as well. The kit had amber eyes filled with knowledge like the previous leader Willowstar. Dragonstar agreed with Brightscar's name choice "Willowkit."
There was one last kit in the litter, this kit stood out from the rest mostly because it's fur was full on light grey with a white paw and bits of white tufts of white on its head, but it wasn't the only appearance that made it stood out, this kit was a she-kit, and unusually small for birth.
"She has the paw," Brightscar said as she shuddered in fear as her daughter reminded her of her evil grandfather. "It's ok, he's not here to harm you anymore," Sharpstar said trying to calm down his mate. "Remember, her eyes are important."
A full white she-cat walked inside the nursery. Sharpstar politely said, "Hello Pebbleshine, do you need permission to go outside of Shadowclan again?" Pebbleshine meowed, "Not this time Sharpstar, I'm just here for a quick check on the kits."
Brightscar started to ask Dragonstar "Hey, Dragonstar what should we name this last kit." Seeing the gray fur, both Dragonstar and Brightscar noticed this and thought of the perfect name. At the same time both cats whispered, "Wolfkit!" and both started laughing with joy.
Pebbleshine examined all of the kits and found nothing wrong with them until she looked at Wolfkit. Wolfkit was very small for her age, but that was not the main issue; her eyes. She struggled to open them and once Pebbleshine had gotten one glimpse at her eye she knew something strange was happening to the kit.
Pebbleshine quickly grabbed Wolfkit from the scruff and carried her to the medicine den.
Sharpstar rushed after while Brightscar looked after the other kits as the ShadowClan leader hurried along with Pebbleshine to see what was going on.
A few hours later it was almost moon rise and Sharpclaw had finished all of his leadership duties and brought the kits with him since the queen needed her rest. Sharpstar kept hoping and hoping that the time he arrived at the medicine den his mate would have been back in the den with Wolfkit sleeping next to her but his wishes couldn't come true.
Both cats had stayed there until Pebbleshine had come out of the den with a worried look on her face. Dragonstar rushed to her and asked in worry, "What happened?" Pebbleshine's voice was hoarse. "I wasn't fast enough." Brightscar interrupted her scared tone with a more worrisome statement.
"What wrong with Wolfkit?" Pebbleshine started explaining "Your kit has a rare condition known as... I don't know what it is! It seems to changes the hosts' eyes or eye depending on their emotions, and could be a bad omen or a good omen." Pebbleshine concluded. The medicine cat took a deep breath and continued, "You see your kit's eyes went from sunshine gold eyes to one green and one blue pair of eyes."
"The best we can do for now is wait and see," said Brightscar and the new family started walking towards the nursery, happy and worried about the new lives they now had, filled with fear for one special kit.
