It was late in the evening. The snow was falling silently outside.
Maura sat on her couch, cup of tea in hand and snuggled up under a blanket. She was reading one of her medical journals, the ones Jane always playfully teased her about.
Suddenly Maura heared the door bell rang and and a huge smile spread across her face, only one person would come that late to visit her. Maura tapped hurriedly down the hallway. With a smile still on her face Maura opened the front door and was hit by the cold winter air.
In front of her stood Jane Rizzoli, cheeks reddened from the cold outside, a thick wool scarve wrapped around her neck.
"Jane!" Maura happily exclaimed.
She took a large step forward and enveloped Jane in a warm embrace. Jane chuckled and slipped her arms around Maura's waist, nuzzling her cold nose into Maura's neck.
Maura giggled at the feeling of Jane's cold nose on her skin and mumbled into Jane's dark curls " Come inside, you're freezing."
They pulled away from each other and stepped inside, Maura closed the door behind Jane.
As she turned around, Jane had already taken of her scarve and coat and was on her way to the fireplace in the livingroom. Maura smiled tenderly at the tall detective.
Jane held out her hands to the fire and Maura heared a relieved sigh escaped her lips. Maura knew that Jane's hands ached when it was cold outside, especially when it was freezing. Jane did her best to hide it but Maura always knew and it made her a little bit proud that she saw thing that the other didn't notice.
She walked up to Jane and wrapped her arms around the taller woman and rested her hands on Jane's stomach. Maura felt Jane lean back into her, reveling in the warmth of the embrace.
Maura let her hands travel over Jane's sides to her arms and finally met her hands. Clasping each one in her own hands, Maura began to massage Jane's hands, pressing her thumbs into Jane's scarred palms and tenderly massaging the ache out of Jane's hands.
"It's cold outside." Jane whispered.
"I know, sweetie, I know." Maura breathed into Jane's hair.
She heared Jane sigh and felt her body relax into hers. Maura nuzzled her nose into Jane's neck and pressed a light kiss to the soft skin of Jane's sensitive neck.
Maura felt Jane shiver and a smirk made its way onto her face.
"Do you want to sit down?" Maura asked quietly.
Jane just nodded and Maura pressed another kiss to Jane's neck, then pulled away and saw Jane wrap her own arms herself, because of the sudden cold.
Maura went to the couch, grabbed some pillows and blankets. She made her way back to Jane where she had left her. Maura placed the pillows and the blankets on the ground, then tourned towards Jane and gestured for her to sit down in front of the fireplace.
Jane lowered herself to the ground and leaned back against the pillows. Maura sat beside her and wrapped one of the blankets around both of them. Then she sneaked her arms around Jane and pulled her closer.
Jane tugged her head under Maura's chin and sighed contendetly. Again Maura took Jane's hands in hers and stroked her thumbs over the scars on the back of Jane's hands. Jane hummed in contentment and Maura pulled her impossible closer and pressed a sweet kiss to Jane's hair.
They stayed like this the whole evening, finally falling asleep in each others arms, the ache in Jane's hands long forgotten.
