Well this was shit.

Sirius sat on a bench in would-be Kings Cross Station, head in his hands. Last he knew, he had been in the Ministry fighting, and now he was here waiting for a train. Honestly, he didn't know if it was even going to be a train, it could be anything... or nothing. He could very well be stuck here forever.

But then he heard it, the distant sound of an engine blowing its horn. Not a minute and a half later a scarlet steam engine, so familiar to him, pulled into the station. It contrasted sharply with the stark white pseudo-station. He rushed forward, climbing up the steps, and pulling back the doors.

And then everything changed.

Sirius found himself standing on the grounds of Hogwarts, somewhere near the Whomping Willow. The sun was out and there was a light breeze.

"So this is your happiest memory, not quite what I was expecting."

Sirius whirled around so fast he nearly tripped. "Marlene,"

"'Lo, love," Marlene smiled, her hair catching the rays of sun like they used to.

"What are you, how-?"

"How did I get here?" She shrugged, chewing on her lip. "I've been keeping tabs on you, and when you die, you go to your happiest memory. Unless someone comes to collect you. When I went, I ended up in that shit apartment you had after school. I hated that place, but, it was yours. And you made me happy so-" She cut herself off, taking a deep breath. "My mom came and got me. Then I had to get Lily and James-"

"Are they alright?" Sirius cut in.

"Yes they're fine, you git." Marlene snapped. "Would you let me finish?"

He nodded for her to go ahead.

"When I saw they were here, I was worried about you." She glared taking a step closer to Sirius. "I was worried, so I started watching out for you. And you... you never mentioned me. Not once. Not even to Harry."

"I mentioned you." Sirius scoffed.

"But not who I was!" Marlene shouted. "Not who I was to you! Sure, 'oh there's Marlene McKinnon. She died after the picture was taken.' Fuck, Sirius, I wasn't just some girl, was I?" She didn't say it like a question.

"Mar, I'm sorry."

"Take your 'sorry' and blow it out your ass, Sirius." She shouted, furiously swiping tears from her cheeks. "You didn't tell Harry about me. You said you loved me, and you didn't say a word. What? Were you ashamed? Was I suddenly not important enough to warrant a bloody sentence?"

"No, Mar, of course not-"

"Then why?" She continued. "Just tell me why!"

"Because it hurt too much!" He shouted over her.

She seemed taken aback for a moment, but then scowled. "Coward."

"What?"

"You're a bloody coward." Marlene crossed her arms. Sirius sighed, looking at his feet.

"I deserved that."

"I hate you."

"I deserved that, too."

Suddenly he was being kissed.

"I didn't deserve that."

Marlene kissed him again. "I missed you."

"I missed you too, Mar." Sirius smiled genuinely, wrapping his arms around her. She sighed, tucking her head into the crook of his neck. Sirius finally felt real peace settle over him after fourteen years.

"I don't actually hate you."

"I don't hate you either."
