The fireplace glowed green, and Pansy turned her attention toward it when her best friend came tumbling out.
"Pansy!" squealed Daphne, wrapping her arms around her best friend in a tight embrace. "I can't believe you are getting married today, I'm so happy for you."
Hopefully, Pansy wouldn't realise that the happiness was fake. Pansy never seemed to realise anything. When they were at school, they had been together, in secret of course for it wouldn't do to have Slytherin finding out. Daphne had loved Pansy, and she was under the perception that Pansy loved her too. However, it seemed she was just part of one of Pansy's phases. The love had never faded, and it was astonishing Daphne had managed to stick around Pansy for so long after.
"I know, I just cant believe it either! Me and Theo, would you have thought? It doesn't seem too long since me and you-" Pansy cut off, seeing the discomfort and hurt in Daphne's eyes, she should remember that their relationship was always an uncomfortable topic, not to be talked about.
"Yeah," murmured Daphne, eyes cast down to the floor.
"Urm," said Pansy, breaking the uncomfortable silence. "Want a drink?"
"Sure," replied Daphne, and she was handed a bloody mary. "At 2 in the afternoon?"
"Daphne, you should know by now that's it never too early to drink," said Pansy, a wild look in her eyes.
"Pansy?" said Daphne, disturbed by the look in her friends eyes. "Whats wrong?"
"I don't know if I want to go through with this," said Pansy, tears dripping down her face, a tad hysterical. She had clearly been drinking before Daphne arrived.
"Look," she gasped. "I wanted to give you this."
Pansy handed Daphne a bouquet made of two single roses – a pure deep orange colour was one of them, and the other was a soft lavender colour.
Daphne glanced at the bouquet and gasped. Memories flooded her mind. What was Pansy playing at? They had learnt about roses in herbology, and Daphne and Pansy both knew perfectly well what they meant, having had a long discussion about the lesson after and having to write an essay on them. Roses, in fact had been an integral part of their relationship. An orange rose symbolised desire, which Daphne certainly felt for Pansy, and a lavender rose symbolised love at first sight.
"You don't always marry your first love," said Daphne, shaking her head as a single tear fell down her face.
"Why shouldn't we though?" said Pansy, her voice laced with passion.
"Yeah," said Daphne, in a voice so soft it was hard to hear. "Why shouldn't we?"

Theo heard a knock on his door, and when he opened it he was met with his house elf holding a package for him.
Grabbing it, he sat down at his desk wondering who was sending him packages on his wedding day.
The contents shocked him. A single black rose with a note attached in Pansy's flowing script. The note simply stated 'Farewell'
Black roses, signifying the end.
