Disclaimer: I do not own Batman.
This is a oneshot for my grandmother who passed away yesterday. This story adds more depth to Bruce's character and his relationship with Cassandra. Anyways, here's to you Mema. I'll miss you.

Batman and Batgirl left the muggers they had just finished with tied up and hanging from a street lamp. With the cops being notified and on their way, the heroic pair made their way to the street. The Batman pressed a button on his gauntlet and the Batmobile soon pulled up to the curb next to them. The cockpit canopy slid away and they jumped into the car. The canopy slid back into place and the Batmobile took off flying down the streets of Gotham. Batgirl was looking out the window, a sad expression showing through her mask.
The Batman kept his eyes on the road, but broke the silence. "Something wrong?" Batgirl remained silent. "I see. Do you want to talk?"
Again, she was quiet, but she turned and looked at her mentor. The Batman continued to keep his eyes on the road.
"Sometimes, I...I wonder if I good Batgirl."
The Batman was quiet for a while, most liking thinking of an answer. He finally spoke. "Do you think you do a good job?"
Batgirl shrugged. "Don't know."
"Do you feel you don't live up to the role?"
Batgirl hesitated, but nodded. "Barbara was better Batgirl."
"Maybe. Maybe not." Batgirl glanced at Batman with a questioning look. The Batman continued. "She was the first, and it's hard to live up to someone's legacy. I know how it feels. You wonder if you are doing them justice; bring honor to the name they once held." Batgirl nodded. "The fact is that you are very different. She was a fine detective and great at coordinating in the field. You, however, surpass her in combat abilities and in stealth. Yes, both of you are very different, but there is one thing you two do share."
"The costume?" Batgirl asked.
"There's that, but I was talking about is something you can't see. It's what truly makes Batgirl who she is. You both put your everything into our fight to save the city. So, neither of you are better than the other and you are valued more than you know. We must play out the roles we are given and make the most of them. Do you understand?"
Batgirl nodded and then yawned. It had been a while since she had a good sleep. Fighting crime and training took up a lot of her time. Playing with Ace and her schooling took up the rest. Batgirl closed her eyes, her form going limp and she rested her head against the Batman's arm. The Batman was startled by her actions, but finally he smiled down at her form. The city had been quiet tonight; enough for him to deal with on his own. Besides, fathers always needed to look out for their daughters, even if it was just to tuck them in at night.
I hoped you enjoyed it. Remember to R&R and check out my other stories. Thanks a bunch.
