Steve never thought that Sundays could get the worst days in his whole life. At least not until that Sunday when everything he knew changed.

He watched the shining red form falling heavily from the sky. There was no power, he guessed. His heartbeat picked up speed and his stomach felt suddenly empty.

"No no no. This can't be happening." he muttered to himself. Despite his shaky knees, he gave his best to run towards where the body would fall. He knew he wouldn't be able to reach it in time, but he just didn't want to admit it to himself.

All the other Avengers were too far from that spot, Steve was the closest, but it was in vain. When he got there, Tony's suit was destroyed. He fell right on an iron bar. Wasn't that ironic? The Iron Man… But Steve couldn't finish his thought. It was too painful and he just couldn't believe it even if it was right in front of him.

Pulling his mask off he dropped on his knees next to Tony's body. Tears flooded his big blue eyes and rolled down his cheeks and onto Tony's suit. So much for keeping him alive, huh?

Tony's eyes were wide open and he just gazed into Steve's. Mahogany hues full of fear, love and something that Steve just couldn't put his finger on. It was so un-Tony who was usually best at hiding his emotions, but now, when giving his last breath, they were all coming to surface. Or maybe Tony stopped fighting them. Maybe he conserved the last energy he had for something better.

Once his own met Steve's eyes, his parted lips formed into a small smile. Steve quickly called for help and forced a smile of his own to Tony.

"Hang in there, Tony. Everything will be okay." Steve told him, but they both knew he was lying. Tony just gazed into his eyes as a small and lost tear left his right eye and fell on the cold ground. His lips merely moved, his voice coming out a struggles whisper: "I love you, Steve.." And those were his last words.

"I love you, too, Tony." Cap muttered, Tony's eyes closing willingly as his face looked peaceful now. He looked like he was sleeping and Steve was the one to know his face while sleeping very well.

Memories floodes his fogged mind and were, seemingly purposeful, coming out and reaching their claws to his breaking heart and shattering it into small bloody pieces. He saw Tony laughing and the lustful yet loving look in his beautiful eyes whenever he watched Steve. He remembered the feeling of Tony's jaw at the base of his neck. His fingers were itching to touch Tony's small frame in the ways Steve knew he'd enjoy. But most of all he remember the eagerness in each of Tony's kisses, the way his skin was burning under his touch, the way Tony's lips would look after one of their many hungry kisses.

And Steve realized he needed that. He needed that more than ever now so he leaned over Tony and presses his lips over the Iron Man's already cold ones. It was a soft lingering kiss and Steve thought that would wake Tony up because Tony wasn't dead. He just couldn't be. Not when they had so many things to share, so many memories to create together.

But the sob he heard behind him and recognizing it as Natasha's made it perfectly clear for him. His lover was dead. For good.

And this made Cap explode. Every inch of his being, fulled by sadness and anger and all of his emotions came out in a strong cry to the sky as the sun was slowly setting over the city. It wasn't just the end of Sunday. It was the end of what Steve ever had.
