Strange Meetings

A/N: I'm afraid I have no explanation for this, and can only apologise. I've never written a Doctor Who fic before, so please take that into consideration. Spoilers for The Wedding of River Song and Children of Earth. Please R&R!

The day after her meeting with River in her garden, Amy took a long walk. The Doctor was alive! She couldn't believe it! It seemed almost too good to be true!

But where was he? If he was alive, why weren't they celebrating? Would he ever come back?

She was so lost in her own thoughts she didn't even notice the good-looking man in the RAF coat until she walked right into him.

"Oh, sorry." He grinned. His American accent somehow made him more gorgeous in Amy's opinion.
"No, my fault." She managed to say, not able to tear her eyes away from his perfectly blue eyes. Get it together Amy! You're married remember!

He laughed, but it seemed forced, and she could see pain in those amazing eyes. He seemed familiar too. Then it clicked.

"You're Jack!" she exclaimed. "Jack Harkness!"
Jack frowned. "How do you know that?"
"I found a picture of on the TARDIS and asked the Doctor about you."
Jack blinked, clearly shocked that the Doctor had a picture of him. He turned around saw a café. "Come on." He said, walking towards it, as Amy hesitantly followed.

Jack brought them their coffees once in the café, and took a sip from his as soon as he sat down with her, grimacing. "That is disgusting." He muttered.
Amy took a sip of hers. "It's not that bad."
"It is compared to the coffee I'm used to." He said, his eyes suddenly becoming unbelievably sad.

He blinked it away quickly though and looked at Amy. "So you know the Doctor?"
She nodded. "I've travelled with him for a while."
"Lucky you. And he keeps a picture of me on the TARDIS?"
She smiled. "He keeps lots of pictures on there. He has a special room for them. I got lost and found it."
"And my picture caught your eye?" he grinned, almost leering.
Amy felt herself blushing as she nodded.
Jack turned serious again. "What did he tell you about me?"
Amy took another sip of her coffee before telling Jack that the Doctor had told her – in extensive detail – about all of their meetings. She found his grin infectious as she relayed some of them, as well as the clear sadness in his eyes through others.

When she was done, she asked Jack "So what are you doing in Leadworth then?"
The sadness came back into his eyes. "I haven't had a good few weeks. I'm just sort of… wandering for now. I got a lot of dirt to shake off my shoes. I'm just jumping back in time but staying on Earth. Though I'm trying to avoid London in 2009."
"Why?"
"Because I won't be able to stop myself." He said quietly, mostly to himself.
"Stop yourself from what?"
He looked up at her with tears in his eyes. "From saving the man I love."

He told her about what happened in Thames House with the 456. By the end of the story, both were in tears.

"I'm sorry." Was all Amy could say.
Jack shook his head. "It's hardly your fault. It's mine."

They talked for hours, buying but not drinking more coffees so they wouldn't be thrown out. They talked about the Doctor, and how he had changed their lives. Amy told Jack about Rory and River. Jack told her more about Ianto, as well as the other members of Torchwood. They eventually left when the café owner announced they were closing.

"It was nice to meet you Jack." Amy told him before they went their separate ways.
"You too." He said, giving her a quick peck on the cheek and a cheeky grin before walking off.

Amy smiled to herself before heading home herself.
