Nick collapsed in front of his girlfriend, crying as she rubbed the back of his head, letting him rest in on her stomach. She was standing and he was sitting on the floor, but because he was so much taller than her, it worked out.
He nuzzled his muzzle against the soft, exposed fur on her stomach, absorbing as much comfort as he could from Judy Hopps.
From Nick escaped a brutal sob, his muscled shoulders shaking roughly as he clutched onto his Carrots.
"Shh. I swear, I'm right here baby. I'm okay." She uttered, running her paws through the fur between his ears.
Nick's cries came a little gentler now as his body tired, his head throbbing and his wet nose runny.
He'd had a nightmare as they slept, he'd dreamt that Judy'd been shot, right through the chest, and she collapsed in his arms, bleeding to death.
"Shh, its okay, you wanna' talk about it?" Judy asked as they walked back to the tiny bed in Judy's apartment.
"No. I wouldn't want to trouble you dreams of carrot cake and ice cream with my problems, now what kind of boyfriend would I be then?" Nick tried to move on through humor, but Judy saw right through it, down to the pain within his heart.
"I'm always here to talk." She whispered, and pulled him down onto the bed.
Nick spooned her, comforting himself with her sheer presence, pressed up, into his chest. " I love you carrots." He told her sincerely.
"Oh you foxes, so emotional." Judy sighed and rubbed a circle into his chest. "I love you too Nick. I'm here, I always will be." And with those perfect six words, Nick fell into a peaceful, dreamless slumber.
