Every Inch of You.
A Fruits Basket Fanfiction

"I'll fix these broken things
Repair your broken wings
And make sure everything's alright
My pressure on her hips
Sinking my fingertips
Into every inch of you'
Cause I know that's what you want me to do."
This Love - Maroon 5
It went without saying that this love had taken it's toll on him.
She'd left to protect him. She'd tried to break the curse to protect him. She'd been beaten by Akito more times that he could count and it was all to protect him. It's okay, she said to herself. I'm doing it for Hatsuharu. And just when he had finally begun to wonder if she had truly, really and deeply given up on him, Hiro had told him. And he couldn't see for the darkness, he couldn't do anything but put less distance between him and that bastard Akito, who dared even touch his Rin, his beautiful Rin who had done it all to help him, done everything to help him. It had felt good, throwing that bag of bones Akito around the room, because he deserved it for everything he'd done. This was his punishment for hurting Rin. And when Kureno told Haru where she'd been locked… Where Akito had held her trapped, like a child would a spider beneath a glass, the rage had been too much for even the dark side of Haru to bear and he had left. He had left and he didn't give a shit if Akito lived or died or never came near him again. All he could think of was Rin.
It was true that this love had taken it's toll on him. But he made a promise, when he found her lying there, half dead on the road, when he was carrying her back in his arms, holding her close to his skin to make her icy, thin body warm once more. He'd fix these broken things in their life, he'd make her better with love and attention and he didn't care if her hair was short, or long or in between. She was Rin, his Rin and that was all that mattered- he'd repair her beautiful broken wings, so she could fly again and soar and forget all about her past and this present, and focus on the future with him, where he would never leave her side. And Rin smiled against his chest and clenched his shirt tighter.
"…Sounds nice… Haru-chan…"
"And make sure everything's alright," he added, pressing his lips to her forehead.
It took a while, but Rin got better and better and eventually she got that fire back in those deep, dark eyes that gave him a headache every time he stared too long. He kept staring anyway, because he couldn't get enough of her, her hair, her taste, her smell, those eyes, and eventually it was too much for the both of them.
The pressure on her hips, as he sunk in his fingertips. He didn't care they weren't married, and that legally, he wasn't meant to do this, and that if anybody walked in right now they were both in trouble, because all that mattered was here and now and Rin. Her eyes were the brightest he'd seen since before Tohru Honda arrived, and she shook against him, not being used to this since her encounter with Akito. Haru smiled and pressed his lips to her shoulder and she relaxed instantly, playing with his soft white hair.
"Every inch of you," he murmured into her ear "Is beautiful, Rin." She grinned and kissed his jaw line her giggle alive.
It went without saying that this love had taken it's toll- on the both of them.
But Haru would never give up on Rin. No matter how many times she was broken, beaten or bruised he'd keep loving her, and coming back.
Because he knows that's what she wants him to do.
A/N: Was listening to this song this evening, and with the verse I indicated, Haru and Rin sprang to my mind. :) After so much Wallflower writings, Haru and Rin is a welcome break. Thank you very much for reading. Please review :)
