Ryan couldn't take it anymore. The drive to Chino was taking forever. There was an awkward silence between him and Teresa. He wanted desperately to break it, but what were the right words? His mind was swimming. Thoughts of Marissa clouded his thoughts. The silence, he decided, was not going to be broken.
Summer had read the letter 14 times. It was memorized.
My Dearest Summer,
I love you more than words can express, and I have no idea how to explain this to you. I've left. I just need time to sort myself out. Ryan was my best friend, my first and only friend. He's gone now, and I don't know what to do. Please Summer, have faith in me. Remember always, I love you!
Seth
Tears rolled down Summer's cheeks. It never hit her until now just how much she loved Seth, and now she'd lost him. She'd lost Ryan, also. Not that she and Ryan had been that close, but she had always felt a strange affection for him. Summer had a plan. She knew exactly where Seth would be, and she hoped it wasn't too late.
Marissa lay on her bed, sobbing. Ryan was gone. Gone with Teresa. She hated Ryan. She hated Teresa. She hated herself. She wiped her eyes and sat up on the bed. Maybe a walk to the docks would ease her sadness. She slipped into her flip-flops, still in her dress from the wedding, and walked out the door.
Seth was gone. Miles away. He got to thinking. He loved Summer, and he already missed her. He'd miss everyone. Ryan, Marissa, Summer. What was he doing? He needed time to sort himself out. It was like... there was a world with Ryan, and world without Ryan. And he didn't think he could live in the world without Ryan. Ryan had just always been there for Seth. He knew exactly what to say at just the right time. He was gone now. He found himself resenting Teresa, and what she had done. Everything had gone downhill since Marissa had started befriending Oliver. Oliver had split Ryan and Marissa up, and they'd had problems ever since then. Then Ryan goes and sleeps with Teresa, and then she gets pregnant. Now he was miles away in Chino! Just then, a massive wave hit the Summer Breeze.
So, how did you like the first chapter? I'm sorry, this one was really, really boring. But I have this whole plot figured out, and it's going to get way better around chapter 3. So, here are some things to think about until the next chapter:
