"Here we go again." Freddie almost whispered with a half-smile, staring up at the Seattle night sky.
"What're you on about now, Fredlumps". Sam said, dropping her guard as they stood together on the fire escape.
"It just seems that every time we start to feel something for each other we try to change it into contempt." Freddie sighed.
Sam's scowl dropped into something a bit more contemplative as she let the words sink in. It's true that they haven't always been the nicest people to each other, but behind their harsh words laid a familiarity and fondness that neither had found in another.
"Freddie..." Sam said shaking her head.
"Listen..." Freddie whispered as he grabbed her hands. "I know you're not an easy girl to get along with but i think I've done pretty well so far. And I'm tired of us pretending to hate each other."
Sam let his words sink in, letting her gaze fall to the grate.
"Here we are again." Sam chuckled, not bothering to argue with Freddie.
"What I'm about to say isn't easy for me to admit, especially to you, Sam." Freddie sighed, letting go of her hand and brushing her hair out of her face. "I kinda wanna be more than friends."
Sam looked up at him with shining eyes and whispered "What are you waiting for?" as her eyes fluttered closed and leaned in, grabbing the back of his head as Freddie put his hands on her waist and pulled her as close as he could to him.
Their lips moved in perfect harmony with each other, bringing a feeling neither had felt before, although in the back of their minds they knew each time they fought they felt the same thing.
"Say goodbye to my heart, Freddie." Sam whispered against his lips. "Because it's yours now."
