Hell's Tavern
By, Lil'River
Every Wensday nigh I go into Hell's Tavern, a small bar at the edge of town that people rarely ever go to. I order my regular beer, only in Vegas can you get beer at eight in the morning. I go over to the corner of the bar near the piano man to talk to him about my woo's and whoa's.
"Hi Sara." He greets me.
"Hey Eric." I smiled then sat on top of the edge of his piano.
"What's bothering you doll?" Eric asked me then started to play a soft tune.
"Wondering if I'm a lesbian, I mean I'm almost 35 years old, I'm not dating anyone and I haven't been in a serious relationship for years." I took a drink, "I'm getting old and I'm lonely."
"First your not old, I'm a little over twice your age. Second don't worry about it, when the right guy comes along you'll know it. Until then just enjoy what you have."
"I have my job, that's about it. Nothing really going for me there. Then there's always my piano man."
"I'm a little old for you honey." He started another tune, "Sing a song." He smiled.
"You know that I don't want to." I looked at him seriously.
"Yes, come on now." He started humming the tune, I sat more on top of the piano with my legs crossed under me.
"She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel"
"Sar?" I looked towards the voice and Nick stood standing at the bar.
"Hey Nick." I smiled at him. He walked over to me, "What are you doing here?"
"Just getting some coffee then I was going to head home. What a bout you?" Nick stood there with his hands in his pockets.
"Talking to my piano man and beer."
"Oh, were you just singing?"
"Yeah," I told him, then there was a long awkward silence.
"Well I got to go catch up on my sleep. So I'll see you tonight at work."
"Bye Nicky." He smiled then left.
"Who's that?" Eric asked me.
"Nick Stokes, he's my coworker." I took a swing at my beer.
"Go out with him."
"What?! Are you crazy? I can't go out with him." I told him in disbelief.
"He's still in the parking lot, ask him out for dinner before your next shift. I mean why not? Your over the Grissom guy." Eric started playing a more upbeat tune.
I sighed then hopped off the piano and kissed his cheek, "If this doesn't work then you owe me."
"It'll work, just believe." He told me.
I smiled then went threw the door to catch up with Nick in the parking lot.
The End
