The beat of hummingbird's wings; that was the sound I followed. I pushed myself harder, trying to force myself to sprint faster towards the small girl that awaited me. She was beautiful still, her red curls framing her face. She looked to be sixteen now, still to young for me. I cursed myself mental for even thinking that. Edward would kill me if he had heard it.

She smiled when she saw me in my wolf form. She loved to climb on my back and run with me. It was her favorite way to spend the day, if her parents would let her go. Of course, Bella just loved the ability to restrict our time together; she was still upset about the imprint.

"Jake..." she whispered, a small smile on her pink lips. I felt myself calm instantly. Her nearness always had that effect on me. My world, revolved around this tiny girl before me, was in her hands. She could control everything I was feeling and she had no idea. Slowly, she reached up her hand to pet my snout. I leaned into her touch instinctively, a soft grumbling purr resonating in my chest. She giggled and I barked out a laugh. "Let's run." she asked, her voice low and sweet. Before I could nod my agreement, she was perched between my shoulder blades, her tiny hands tangled in my fur.

Yes. This small girl was my world.

And we ran.
