In Our Own Little World

Alex is so beautiful. Everyone else is feverishly discussing the case – the rape of a sixteen year old girl, the case hard on time – but all I can do is stare. All I can do is imagine pulling her close, capturing her mouth with mine, sliding my hand underneath her skirt...

"Detective?"

Crap, she caught me staring. "Yes?" I try to stay calm, but a little panic slips through nonetheless. Alex tilts her head slightly, her perfect features etched with concern. "Do you need a break? It's been a hard case. We could, ah," she pauses for second, and nods, as if warding off a bad idea. "Go out for coffee?"

Yes! "Yes, that sounds lovely." I barley manage to push the words out of my throat, and what's left of my voice sounds unpleasantly like a toad. Wordlessly picking up her folders, Alex seems not to even notice.

"So." She turns to me, after what seemed like an eternity - "Ready to go?"

I snap out of it, and try to respond, my mouth opening and closing near silently. "Yes!" I say finally, far too enthusiastic. "Yeah, I'm ready." Alex gives me a small smile, and I wonder if she knows I love her.

Olivia's staring at me again. I wonder if she knows how it makes me feel... I shiver slightly, inwardly. She'd probably have to lock me up, if she knew the things I wanted to do to her when she looked at me like that. I shook myself.

"Detective?" I can see that I've startled her, and I watch as she struggles to find words.

"Yes?" She says, a slight panic in her voice.

I take a moment to examine the detective before me, as I contemplate my offer. "Do you need a break? It's been a hard case. We could, ah," I pause, considering my choices. We could... go makeout in an empty interrogation room. "Go out for coffee?" I can see her eyes light up at the suggestion, and I smile, wondering what would have happened had I voiced my first choice.

"Yes, that sounds lovely." She's barley choking out the words, and I wonder if she's as nervous as I am. I feign calm, however, and quietly pick up my case files.

"So," I say, turning to her at last, "Ready to go?" I've surprised her again, and she gasps for words like a fish for air before responding - "Yes!" She finally manages to push out. "Yeah, I'm ready," I give her an encouraging smile, and I wonder if she knows I love her.
