The sound of off- key singing filled the Plas Roald Dahl. If anyone was listening, they wouldn't have recognised the song, even when the language became human.
Two men staggered across it and one of them tumbled to the stone floor and giggles filled the air.
"You'll get piles," Jack said.
"Nah!" the Doctor replied and tried to get up and failed.
Jack plopped down next to him and took another swig from the bottle of fine malt whiskey.
"So, Doctor that was the best time wasn't it?"
The Doctor smiled and looked up at the clear night sky.
"You know, I've travelled light years and centuries, seen hundred...thousands of civilisations."
Jack looked up as well. "Me too, not as many as you, but I've seen my fair share."
The Doctor pointed to a cluster of stars. "That's were Gallifrey used to be...millions of light years away from here."
Jack's narrowed drunken eyes and said. "Don't start...it's been a great evening."
The Doctor pouted and it made Jack want to kiss him until he forgot about things past.
"My people were never much on friendship and enjoyment. Parties were seen as frivolous and beneath a Time Lord...Rassilon, they were bores."
Jack nodded in agreement, but said nothing, knowing the Doctor wasn't expecting one.
"But Jack, you humans...you humans and don't take this the wrong way...your greedy, selfish, weak-willed, vain, self-important..."
Jack went to say something, but the Doctor kept going. "B-u-u-t you are also giving, selfless, strong-minded, self-effacing and most of all you throw the greatest parties in the universe."
He fell silent and a few moments they sat in silence and watched the stars.
It was a great wedding, wasn't it? Martha looked beautiful," Jack said, breaking the silence.
"That Tom is a lucky man," the Doctor said and stood up. "Well, I must be going...universe to save an' all."
They walked towards the blue wooden box and the Doctor entered the TARDIS. He turned and gave Jack a smile that told him he was entirely sober.
"That Jack Harkness was the best of the best times I've ever had, bye Jack."
