Chapter 1
One girl trying to live up to the great expectations of others can create a very callous woman, or so thought her best friend Luna Izumo.
"Don't you think you were a little harsh?" she asked the girl in question.
"Whatever do you mean?" Sakura asked feigning innocence and giving her an angelic look.
"Oh please….. don't give me that crap…..you just completely crushed that guy's confidence. Now thanks to you he's probably going to end up being all alone for the rest of his life because he fears rejection-"
Sakura cut Luna short in her 'you've shattered someone's dreams' speech.
"I fail to see how this affects me." she calmly stated finding her salad extremely interesting.
"Oh it will alright…..just you wait, 'cause when you least expect it he's gonna murder you and become the world's worst serial killer!" she announced jabbing the air with one finger dramatically for emphasis.
Sakura rolled her eyes. "Honestly with that kind of imagination it's a wonder you're not in showbiz."
"Why thank you very much, I-… stop trying to change the subject!"
"Me……whatever are you talking about?"
"You purposely….forget it, you win." Luna sighed plopping down on the bench.
"I know…. I always do."
Yup, it wasn't easy being the best friend of living perfection a.k.a. Sakura Takahashi. It's true though about opposites attracting because they were on the opposite sides of the firing range. Luna was a monk, and yes I mean a monk, not a miko. She used sacred ofudas and prayers not holy arrows. Her best friend Sakura was a youkai and not just any youkai but a taiyoukai, well sorta. The title was shared between her and her twin brother Takuto, whom Luna secretly admired.
Well, there are four lands: The Northern, the Southern, the Western and the Eastern. The four lands are controlled in the human society by one human president but in the youkai society there is a taiyoukai for each region. The Northern Lands are ruled by the wolf youkai, Lord Kouga, the Eastern by a dragon youkai, Lord Shiro, the Southern by twin dog demons, Lord Takuto and Lady Sakura, and the Western by another dog youkai, Lord Sesshoumaru.
The youkai world was quite complex and a complete enigma to Luna. Youkai were immortal, Sakura was a prime example as she was actually 234 years old but looked nothing over 18 years. Technically speaking she could be Luna great, great, great grandmother which sometimes freaked her out but Sakura was just too great to let go.
"Hey you wanna go shopping after work?" Sakura asked.
"Why?"
"I thought we could get some new suits for tomorrow's meeting."
"What's so special about….oh! The taiy- CEO of Taisho Corps." Luna said catching herself before she blurted out the youkai secret.
"Exactly. I want him to know who he's dealing with especially since he was such a snob when I told him Takuto wouldn't be able to make it."
"Hasn't he heard of equality of rights?"
"Apparently not but at the end of the meeting I'm sure he'll have a different point of view."
Sakura was used to getting what she wanted. She knew that many of the youkai lords wished for her brother to completely take over but she was adamant in her opinion of the matter. She was going to prove to every last one of those stuck up, old prunes that she was fit for the position. Little did she know that hardly any of the lords could be called prunes especially the one she was meeting tomorrow.
