"Son of a bitch," She hissed as three freshly made cups of coffee slip from her grasp and onto the ground in front of her. Her boss scolds her for her language and mutters something about this coming out of her paycheck before rushing for a mop.
It was near the end of a terrible monday morning shift and Lily just about had it. She was sure that everyone in town had stopped in for coffee on their way to work or school. The last unlucky soul suffered a long wait just for her to be an idiot and drop all of his drinks.
"Don't even worry about it," He said raising a hand to stop her apology, "Shit happens, I don't mind waiting."
She mentally blessed the mother of this young man and his patience, "Can I at least offer a drink carrier?"
He laughed leaning against the counter pushing his dark messy hair out of his face. She also mentally told herself not to get distracted by this guy. He couldn't be that good looking she's just tired.
"That'd be great."
Tired that's all. Tired.
She grabbed the order tickets that were still pinned up, "You're James right?" She asked holding the ticket up, "don't want to remake the wrong drinks."
"That would be me. Got a mocha with mostly chocolate?"
Nodding she said, "Would it be rude to write the number of a good dentist on your cup? Cause I think you're gonna need one."
"Absolutely, It would be a waste of having any number other than your own," He said tilting his head to see behind the counter. Those hazel eyes flood with curiosity behind his glasses.
She couldn't contain an eye roll, "I just wasted three cups of coffee on my shoes making you wait longer and you're trying to get my number?"
Typical.
"And here I thought you dropped them just to keep me here longer," He smiled.
"You got me there," She muttered sarcastically while more carefully placing the lid on the first cup she got done, "Who doesn't want to spill hot coffee on themselves for something as trivial as this?"
"What? So do you not believe in love at first sight or should I leave and walk by again?"
Shaking her head pointedly keeping her focus on her work, "that the best you got?"
"Sorry, you're just so beautiful I forgot my pick up lines," He mused.
"So if you end up back here again can I assume you're here for coffee, tea, or just more of me?" She quips.
She's not looking at him directly but can hear his grin turn to a shit eating monstrosity.
"Well love, I'm no organ donor but I'd happily give you my heart."
She put the finishing touches on his order making sure they were secure in the cardboard contraption, "Alright Casanova, have a nice day."
"What? I don't get to at least know your name? Or should I just call you mine?" His grin is just a smug as she assumed.
"I thought the guy ordering three large coffees was thirsty before..." She trailed off letting out a sarcastic sigh.
He leaned in as he took the coffees from her and winked, "Parched."
One last eyeroll and she was back to work to finish cleaning up the mess she made.
Outside James had made it back to his friends.
"Took you long enough mate," The skinnier light haired one commented as he took the coffees away from James to find his order.
"Finally get that ginger to notice you Prongs?" The other asked.
Playing it cool James shrugged, "Nah, it was just busy in there."
"Really?" His friend mused, "So this phone number scribbled on my coffee with the name 'Lily' is just nothing?"
James was silent staring at the cup in his hand before looking him in the eyes, "Moony if you love me you will give me that cup."
