Gotham City
"You awake?"
"No."
"Then how are you talking to me?"
Tatsu groaned into her pillow. "Joanna?"
"Yeah?"
"Bad dream." When she heard no response she took that as a yes. "Come here." Tatsu wrapped her arm around Joanna and pulled her close.
Joanna snuggled close. "I can't sleep. Every time I close my eye I see it over and over again."
"I know. But I'm here."
"Promise me nothing will ever happen to you."
Tatsu placed a kiss on her head. "I can't."
"Then promise me I will have you for a long time."
"As long as we are both alive. We will have each other."
"I want more than that."
Tatsu signed. She didn't know what to say she knew how easily promises like that can break. Weather on purpose or not. She couldn't put Joanna through that. "All I can promise is that I will always love you."
"Thank you."
Tatsu stayed awake listening to Joanna's breathing waiting until she fell asleep to even think about going to sleep also. Tatsu ran her fingers through Joanna's hair. She whispers, "I promise to stay with you forever." She new it was impossible but she needed to say it and hope it would come true.
