SIX YEARS
Jack takes the hair-tie and patiently re-secures his daughter's ponytail. She's been running around singing to herself—her cheeks are flushed, her bright eyes shining.
As he finishes she looks up at him and touches her pink fingers to his careworn face, "Daddy, can we go soon?"
"Yes, Sammie. Soon."
She nods and looks at the headstone that they're visiting. With childlike abandon she reaches for one of the daisies that they've brought and smells it. "Did Daddy tell you about the party, Mommy? He made me a blue cake!" Then, she skips away her laughter ringing.
Six years, Jack thinks in awe; he whispers, "I love you both more everyday."
