Subtle Jealousy
"So…" Icy blue eyes looked at the woman next to him, who was sitting on the same bench with a book on her hand.
"Hmm?" Her eyes never left the book.
He tried again, trying to make her tell him what he wanted to hear. "Well?"
"What is it?" Brown eyes settled on his with a nonchalant expression.
He gave up trying to give her a subtle hint and decided to make it blatantly obvious. "Are you coming with me or not?"
She finally put down the annoying book in her lap. "I would but I promised Honda that I would help him today."
"That's why," Kaiba gritted his teeth. "I'm telling you not to go and come with me."
"I can't," Shizuka said, flatly. "A promise is a promise."
"How very noble of you," he commented, sarcastically. "Are you saying that you would rather go with him than come with me?"
She looked at him with a half-smile. "Yes, if I must."
They stayed silent for a long time. Shizuka looked at the children playing in the playground, while Kaiba sulked inwardly.
She was the first to break the prolonged silence. "Are you mad?"
"No," he answered, indifferently. But she knew better and could read his expression after spending all the time with him.
"Are you sure?" She was persistent, which annoyed Kaiba.
"Yes." Kaiba leaned back on the bench.
"How about coming with me?" She asked him, which made him snap his attention back to her in surprise.
"No," he replied, immediately.
"Then I'll make it up to you some other day," Shizuka said, as she reached for his hand and lightly settled her hand on top of his. He sighed and looked at their joined hands, noting the sparkling diamond ring on her hand with some pride and smugness. It was simple and it suited her.
"You don't have a second thought?" he asked. She followed his eyes and saw that he was looking at the ring.
"No," Shizuka answered, wrapping her arm around his and intertwining their hands. She looked up at him. "I don't."
"But you're still not coming today with me to the beach resort that I already reserved for you?" Kaiba questioned, staring back at her.
"No." That stubborn nature of hers sometimes irritated him. She was too nice for her own good.
"Why do you have to go?" He was irked that out of all the days, it had to be today that she couldn't make it.
"I owe him," Shizuka said, simply.
"I'll send him someone else," Kaiba stated.
She easily declined the offer. "That's not what friends do." He felt her head settle on his shoulder. "You're not mad, right?"
Kaiba wanted to tell her that he wanted to kill Honda and throw him out in the ocean to rot, but he knew that she would disapprove.
"Don't worry, I'll really spend time with you next time," Shizuka said, as she tentatively kissed the corner of his mouth briefly with a blush on her face.
'Screw it.' He didn't care anymore. He freed his arm from her grip and wrapped it around her shoulder to bring her closer to him. Then he leaned down to kiss her in the lips, lingering there for few more seconds until they broke apart.
"A promise is a promise," Kaiba said, sternly.
"Sure."

"You're coming with me today, right?" Kaiba deadpanned, standing right in front of her, preventing her from walking forward.
"I'm sorry. You should've told me earlier," Shizuka answered him, an apologetic look on her face. "I promised Anzu that I would shop with her today."
'Hell no,' he fumed. Shizuka just watched as his angry expression turned into one of his infamous smirk, not knowing what was going through his mind. 'I'm going to obliterate all of them out of the face of the earth.'
