"Artie...just so you know...I've always got your back...and any other body parts that might need attention."

As soon as she realized what she'd said, her face turned a deep scarlet. The thought that had run through her mind and what had come out of her mouth were two entirely different things.

Actually, they were exactly the same thing. She had hoped she could trust her brain's filter to turn her thoughts into something that didn't make her sound like as much of a creeper as her thoughts did, but apparently her filter was broken that day.

Quinn and Artie had been dating for a while. She noticed that he always seemed to be watching out for her, and decided that she should return the favour and have his back. Not that she didn't always have his back anyways, she just thought she should pay more attention to make sure she wasn't missing anything.

They'd been sitting on the couch in his living room, watching The Empire Strikes Back, when the urge to let him know had hit her. She wasn't sure why she felt like she should tell him she had his back, but at the time it seemed like a good idea.

She had waited until he hit pause and went to go grab some popcorn from the kitchen. When he came back, and was again situated on the couch beside her, the words fell out of her mouth, and the statement was out there before she could try to reel it back in.

He looked at her, an amused grin spreading across his face.

"You want to give attention to my body parts?" he asked, grinning from ear to ear. "I think that can be arranged."

"That...didn't come out right," she muttered, turning away so he wouldn't see that her face was redder than his sweater. "Sorry."

"Don't apologize," he said, reaching out a hand and cupping her chin. "That was one of the sweetest things anyone has ever said to me."

She looked at him. "Are you kidding? I just told you I'd take care of your body parts that require attention. Could I be any creepier?"

He grinned. "I knew what you meant. Remember...you once told me I had the worst (and most adorable) word vomit of anyone you've ever met...I must just be rubbing off."

She grinned back. "Still...I can't believe I said that."

"I can think of one body part that requires attention right now," he said, an innocent look on his face.

"ARTIE!" she said, smacking him lightly on the arm.

"What?" he said, pretending that his arm hurt where she had smacked him. "I meant my lips. No need to beat me, woman!"

She grinned. "I think I can help you with that..." she trailed off, leaning over him and placing her lips on his.

As she kissed him, the events of the past few minutes ran through her mind, and she knew that she'd made the right choice when she'd agreed to go out with him in the first place.

A story centered around this line from GLEEful Heart's story, Lean on Me:

Quinn figured that since Artie always seemed to be watching out for her, the least she could do was have his back too-and any other body part that may have needed attention.
